Dreadlocks

So I've been wantin dreads for maybe 3 years now, but never commit to growing my hair back out. It's relatively short now, the way i've been keeping it. I hate the phase in between now and 6 - 7 inches maybe. But any ways, what do you guys think? Do any of you have dreads? If so, would you recommend them? Also do you wash them daily, every two days, or never?

I don't have dreads but one of my best friends had them for five years.

They are a commitment so you gotta be ready for people to stereotype you. It's an easy way to meet people who smoke nuggets thats for sure. They get better and better with age, but in the begining they do look kind of awkward. But years 3+ they are rad!

i dont have them and i dont recommend them. if youre not religious then why bother? they can be a hassle

if your gonna do it man just make sure you take care of them. make sure they're well groomed and all that shit, i hate nappy ass dirty looking dreads that are just clumps of matted hair

I used to wear dreadlocks (for religious/spiritual reasons) and they were gorgeous. My personal opinion is, if you're doing it for religious/spiritual reasons, fine. If not, then don't.

im in the process now of growing dreads. yea, ur gonna get a lot of shit.. especially if ur white. A lot of rasta jokes, which get tiring but u gotta look past it.

Theres different methods of getting dreads, some result in 'nicer/neater' looking dreads and some the opposite. Its up to you which you want. If you want really nice and kept dreads ide recommend backcombing sections and using wax. But If you want some nappy hippy dreadlocks

then just go natural.

Just wash your hair with non- residue shampoo and dont comb. Gradually wash less n less and your scalp wont produce as much oils, so your hair will knot up better without the oils. Right now im only about a month and a half in, i wash my hair like 3.... 4 times a week.

you can wash your hair with baking soda, its a great cleaner. Or Dr. Bronners soap. Its residue free and vegan friendly

I got long hair and people ask me if I am going to get dreads all the time.

People will judge you for sure, and I'm only speaking from long hair ,yet. People will judge you no matter what I suppose. But it gets annoying when people 'know you man' because of how you keep your hair.

I see how my life has changed as my hair has lengthened. Not a knowing gesture, but it just happened. As sure as my hair grew so did my spirituality. So I really understand what is being said here about the sacredness of keeping your hair a certain way.

So WHY do you want dreads would be my question, Killerrr.

Not for religious purposes. You know I'm somewhat anti-religion. I just think they look bad ass and I like the lifestyle. I've done my e-research on em and I plan on washin em every other night. And my hair used to be past my shoulders, so I already know about the judgment issue. I can easily shrug that kinda shit off.

And I wanna find a girl who digs em.

^dude just because you and some religious group find it religious.. does not mean that every one does. african hair naturally dreads with out care. wtf does that have to do with religion?

I think it's about 5 years I have them now.

They have potential to look silly in the beginning so wear lotsa hats if you want, but once they grow out they're super nice.

I love my dreads wouldn't cut them for the world.

yes you do wash them, biggest misconception about dreads is you dont wash/fuck with your hair . . . . easiest way to get some hobo dreads thats fuhsho. But yeah anyways white people with dreads do look ridiculous, black man style only sorreh. Be happy you can always resort to a mohawk or some other spikey style that us colored folk cant do lol

Oh yeah and Wax is a major nono it'll never come out and hair will grow over it,just gross don't use wax.

And yes we wash our dreads all the time with all natural bar of soap.
