Can you smoke too much?
Hi. I just joined today because last night I freaked out and it's kinda bugging me. Sorry if its a novel.
I've been smoking weed for over a year and I always do it when I'm happy and in a comfortable place with people that I know and trust. But last night I went to a show in town with some friends and we smoked a huge bowl[I personally had like 3 big hits] and not five minutes later I felt myself freaking out. I don't know if it's really freaking out or what. My dad had to pick me up from the place and leave my car overnight. He's a big smoker, too, and he said that what happened to me he never really had seen before. It's happened once before to me. My boyfriend and I were going to a cool place in the mountains we like to hang out at not too far from where we live. I smoked and he drove. Right when we hit the mountain side I started to freak. It started by me laughing like that good uncontrollable laugh one gets when high, but then I got lost inside myself. All I could hear was myself and all my crazy, racing thoughts, I didn't hear my self talking, though I was, and I didn't know what I was saying. When I things were finally clear I found that I was not laughing anymore but bawling so bad. I looked over and saw my bf looking terrified, trying to comfort me. I tell him that somethings wrong and that I should call my dad. We when over some hills and I was lost again. When things were clear I told him that I was having a heart attack because my heart was racing a million miles a second. We got there, I went in and out of myself, ate some food, got outside and was soon better. This time I was with people I didn't know well, I immediately recognized it and called my dad to pick me up, feeling incredibly embarrassed. It took all night to finally come down instead of an hour or so like the last time. I felt like my brain swelled and I was afraid to go to sleep and never wake up. I distracted myself with video games and talking to my bf till I just felt the nirvana of the high. But now, nearly 24 hours later, I still feel weird and my head still hurts. My dad thinks it's the pill that's doing it. Or that I smoked too much. [I consider myself a lightweight to mj. But sometimes I don't listen.] My boyfriend thinks it's the atmosphere I'm in and my mood when I smoked. Do you guys think I smoked too much? Has this happened to anyone else? From these experiences I'm really scared of what would happen to me on hallucinogens, and I've always wanted to try them . |

Did anyone else smoke the same stuff you had? Did anyone else who may have smoked the same stuff experience the same things? Either this time or last? If so, maybe you've gotten some laced stuff.
Were you drinking at the time? Drinking can really mess up a good stone, at least it does for me. I don't generally mix the two. In small amounts/sometimes, maybe, but I usually don't drink a lot and get stoned. I found, over time, that It just messes me up. Are you the kind of person who freaks out about lots of things? There's all sorts of people in this world - some can handle anything, some get freaked out by anything. That could make a huge difference, too. just your personality. I've known people who just generally, freak out over nothing. I couldn't imagine them smoking pot. The first few times I got REALLY baked, I freaked out a little. the heart racing, weird thoughts, not being used to it, etc. Maybe you just don't handle it as well as others? I'm not saying this is the case, but I don't know. I don't think you can smoke too much, generally. For me, the more I smoke, the less my stone gets. I mean, I'll get a good stone for a while, I can keep it going, but it is generally less strong than those first few hours and never is as strong again. I'm sure hundreds of people on this site smoke everyday, all day long. |

Sounds like you experienced paranoia/whitey both times. It`s not uncommon especially in situations like the second time you described- public places with people you don`t know well. Don`t worry too much, you only have to fear fear itself. It`s easily done especially with strong skunk but in comfortable environs, preferably with somewhere where you can go and chill on your own you can easily think your way out of it. I find using meditation/yoga breathing techniques pulls me out of such situations. You`re only playing mind games with yourself. If the problem persists be wary of smoking lots of strong weed. Think about the scene in which you are smoking. Alcohol will almost certainly intensify a the problems you describe. If you don`t smoke often you`ll feel the effects much more keenly- regular smokers build up a tolerance. If you go with it, being way out of it on weed can be way cool- it depends on the circumstances. ![]()

you just got a little paranoid. your heart starts racing and the situation escalates itself, and with the mind expanding effects of the weed, you freaked yourself out.
next time you get high and start feeling uneasy, just ignore the irrational thoughts, look around and take in the sight/smells/sounds of nature or where ever you're at and just relax

Sounds like a mild anxiety/panic attack.
I've only recently had experience with these and weed does, on occasion, trigger them.

I'm fairly new to smoking and this has happened to me too. I like the yoga idea... I've done that before and it helped me relax. I've heard your brain needs to get used to mj. I've just been experimenting with different kinds. I think it was the environment you were in from what you described. Your dad has never heard of this. Maybe it's because we're girls... Oh and he might be on to something with the pill. I was on it for a while and I didn't like how the hormones made me feel at all.

I'm also saying panic attack. Do you otherwise have panic attacks?
Maybe you should either A) smoke less or B) stop smoking

yea sounds like some lace shit. Make sure you reallllllly know where your getting your nugs from, not some sketchy ass dude. I'm not encouraging anything, but sometimes when I get too high I start to freak too. I usually then either smoke a cigarette, or pop like a percocet or a vicodin, and that clears things right up.
This one time I bought a bag off this sketchy dude, rolled over to my friends house. Proceeded to smoke, felt pretty high and then BOOOM! I was in a nightmare. The weed was heavily laced with PCP, my vision got really blurry and I was like temporarily retarded. I stared at a screen for like 2 hours thinking I was going to die. Long story short, be careful what you smoke. |

^^^ sorry, but coming from a person who smoked pcp heavily for years.....thats not what the effects of pcp are...believe me, its much much more intense than getting blurry vision and feeling "retarded". Think, going into another world and complete and total loss of personality and ego.
Original poster, paranoia and the feelings you had are very normal when u first start smoking. Even long time smokers run into paranoia and have minor freak outs. I suggest you only smoke weed in very comfortable situations until u get used to herbs effect

this same thing happened to me 4 years ago.
What the hell happened to me? It never happened again after that, so don't worry, I don't think it will happen very often especially as you continue to build more of a tolerance.

ive dealt with the same type of thing, but not close to as bad. for me, smoking in certain situations where i felt uncomfortable would trigger anxiety. Id have racing thoughts where it felt like i just lost concentration, hard to describe, just really bad paranoia.
listen to your boyfriend, he knows you best, hes probably right. id say it was atmosphere, combined with being really high. goin to a concert with people i didnt know, plus being really high, would definitley give me some anxiety at least. as for the first time, maybe it was because you smoked and your boyfriend didnt. maybe they had different weed you hadnt smoked before, or maybe you never smoked that bowl before or something. maybe you were in a bad mindset ahead of time. for me i linked my anxiety with depression. for the time being, smoke only in comfortable settings until you feel normal again. try smoking less when youre in situations like that. if it continues to happen, you should consider taking a break from smoking. otherwise its only going worse. believe me, its all in your head. once you get in that mindset once it can turn into a habit almost, at least for me, to the point where it happens everytime you smoke. and definitely do not let this minor detail stop you from taking hallucinogens. If anything, they would help, as long as you are in the right mindset. For me, taking mushrooms drastically improved my overall mood and condition. i felt more in touch with myself and normal than i had in a while. |
