I could use some advice on this too, my little bro has some mental issues, like learning dissabilities and shit. I'm about to move back in with the family so any insight would be really good.

All these issues boil down to the same very simple methods, imo. Kindness, patience, understanding, the desire to help. Above all, be human, and don't deny them of that - don't treat them as they are incapable or small.

well, i'm the family member with mental probs. the number 1 thing you can do is try to educate yourself to whatever the malady may be. take my depression(plz.) read a book, share the book with the loved one and tell them "i'm trying to understand and i know how hard this must suck for you." demonstrating and verbalizing empathy will make a world of difference. i know this cus my family never did shit for me. they even acted around my doctors like i was the first family member to suffer and i come from a longline of alcoholic depressives.
so show them love and show them you're willing to help carry their load however you can. |

shai_hulud I know how you feel. I can't even call my bank to get my debit card replaced and resent. It's just like why? All I do is sit on yahooka and look things up on the internet. So atleast your not alone!
