fuck your dreams for now and get some sleep mang.
maybe you're having your dreams and just not really remembering them. maybe none have been memorable enough, who knows. i'd say get your sleep, and the dreams should come back accordingly. could even just be your inconsistent sleep patterns.

More physical exertion during the day. Lots of fluids. Not too much of anything ingested a while before bed time. No caffeine, etc.

fyi insomnia is a total inability to sleep.. dreams are less important than sleep, and if your favourite thing to do in "life" is to "dream", you may want to reevaluate your priorities.
Go see a doctor, inability to sleep is a fairly serious problem in that it affects your quality of life.
additionally you may have become dependent on marijuana to sleep. try real hard for a week or two to sleep without being high, and you should be able to break the dependency.

I had a lot of trouble sleeping when I stopped smoking, so I started going for walks at night. start out small, nothing was working. now I walk four miles a night for something to do, and I can actually sleep when I get back.
not very useful advice, but it worked for me.

I don't smoke enough to be dependant on it. once or twice a week maybe. and insomnia is regularly having difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep to the point of affecting daily life. not being able to sleep at all is an extreme case. I exaggerated by saying dreaming is my FAVORITE thing to do but I do have very vivid and enjoyable dreams almost every night when I finally do get to sleep

lol yeah it's pretty important to exert yourself if you're overtired- that won't lead to problems.

The physical activity of any sort before bed is great advice. Especially if you prefer not to smoke. You can also do things like meditation or yoga before bed. There are certain exercises specifically geared for sleep.
If you prefer smoking (even if not) then I highly recommend breaking up your sleep patterns. Set your alarm for about 3 hrs in. You can adjust it more or less to your liking. When I want to dream I probably set my alarm two or three times a night to get the best results. Its even better if you can actually get up and do things in between sleep sessions.

That's pretty unhealthy, not only are you setting yourself up to be extremely impaired the next morning (which is dangerous if you have to drive to work), but there most certainly is a NEED for REM sleep, which is what you are depriving yourself of...
And furthermore no, if the OP is legitimately experiencing insomnia as he/she claims, sleep deprived people should not over-exert themselves.......

Well first of all it was a suggestion, suggestions are to be taken with a grain of salt given that people in different circumstances are dealing with different factors. Should I have detailed more cautions and details to follow in my giving of advice? Probably.
Second, sleep patterns are something heavily debated in the health and wellness communities. People have varying opinions on it, especially given that we all have different ideals of our operating states. Segmented sleep patterns are very common practices in wellness communities and even more so in dream consciousness and lucid dreaming communities. REM sleep has a series of different phases that happen at various times during ones sleep patterns. It is actually what is responsible for dreaming itself. Breaking up sleep does not mean that you wont have REM, infact you can go right back into deep REM states shortly after being woken up from it. The whole reason behind compartmental sleep is to essentially play with and repress REM states so they intensify at the next chance. Marijuana represses REM, thats why if you smoke one night before bed and dont the next night, you usually have dreams you remember. So another method to use is smoke one night and not the other. You are more than likely to experience a fair and healthy amount of REM if you give 3-4 hours of continuous sleep anyways, this is without any repression. It's completely healthy given the time frames I listed. I would never suggest that someone who only has 7 hours to sleep breaks it up 4 times a night while having green tea in between. I also would not recommend it as a constant thing. It's all about the individual finding their personal balance. At the same time, being exposed to different ideas is always a powerful thing. New information, new possibilities.

Never once did I personally mention anything of over exertion. Over exertion, and exercise are two completely different forms of activity.
Coming from someone who suffers from insomnia and has for several years now, I would say that it depends on what type of insomnia the individual has and to what degree it manifests. Do they have too much physical energy... or too much mental energy? How much sleep are they getting? How often does it happen? Sometimes in some specific cases, exertion for the result of sleep is a good method to use if it infact results in sleeping. If it does not result in sleeping (meaning it is ineffective) then they should not exert themselves because they would spreading themselves far too thin. But I mean, why do something if it proves to be ineffective? If exertion is successful than the individual would no longer have the same issues (they would be sleeping) therefore they would have more energy to take the resistance on the body from exercise. Keep in mind this whole time I never mentioned the word "over" in conjunction with "exert"...as it is not necessary.

quoting very reliable sources I see... It's ok toots, I have a bigger brain, that's all there is to it. No need to dance around using words or anything like that.
Not everyone can get it right all the time.
I don't see why you think that somehow you know what's better for you than your CIRCADIAN RHYTHM.....

Basically, with regard to the OP, if you're TRULY experiencing INSOMNIA, SEE A DOCTOR, this is a SIGN OF A SLEEP DISORDER. Generally, you CANNOT rectify sleep disorders of your own accord.
If you're NOT truly experiencing insomnia, feel free to try any of the methods mentioned in this thread and see what works, but please refer to the first part of my post.

I don't know man, lucid dreaming ranks right up there with one of the coolest things I've ever done/seen/experienced.
