Be happy about yourself?
What do you guys do in order to be happy about yourself?
I've noticed that I havn't been happy about other people, and I've been blaming them or myself, but really, it stems from whether or not I am happy about myself. If I'm getting my work done, if I'm active and social and if I treat others well.
What do you guys think of when you ask, 'what do I do that makes me happy'?

Taking time to clear my mind. Going for a long walk on the trail leaves me with all the silence I can dive into. Think about a time when you would have said 'yes, I am happy' and ponder what was happening then and try to apply that to today.

if you go on a long walk like sage sugested but bring an ipod or other music player it's more relaxing and thought clearing but long-term does not give the same effect as a walk just to think about and ponder life.

heh yes. i usually let mother nature provide the soundtrack for meditation, but at times when i just need to chill, stop thinking about whatever i might be stressing about, music definitely helps me relax.

I totally agree with this. I generally listen to up-beat music, extremely loud, and dance and sing around until I feel better.
Doing something for someone worse off than you, is also a good way to feel better about yourself.

Me personally, I like doing some of my hobbies. Working out, Golf, anything to keep your mind occuppied. When I don't go out and stay shelled up in my house, that makes me feel unhappy ,and then I don't go out because I'm already down on myself.
You have to keep yourself busy and do things you like, that is how I stay happy, have an active lifestyle.

Honestly, as dopey as it sounds...just trying.
Smiling when I don't feel like smiling.
Making light of the heaviest of situations.
Trying to put forth a good attitude, and especially a good vibe towards the people I encounter in a day, yanno? I take my headphones off on the bus usually, because some of the older folk like to chat. On more than a few occasions I've been thanked and told that kids "got attitude problems" now a'days, don't do that sort of thing. So it seems worth it.
Making a conscious effort to be present, I guess. Maybe none of that makes sense.
I had a year or so where I was stuck in a groove, addicted to some heavy shit, and didn't do much of any kind of living. The best lesson I learned from that mess was to get out of bed each and every day, whether I felt like it or not. It's really been a helpful mindset.

being around people that i can make smile and that can make me smile.
and a walk is nice, of course.
thinking to myself what i want and then doing it.
for example, getting my G.E.D.
today i have the first orientation and afterwords i am sure i'll be happy with myself.

i've been doing the exact same thing. i'm not happy right now and i find i've been very unhappy with my friends and judgemental as well. i think just being negative all around. i'm trying to gert out of this hole for a long time now.
what makes me happy is when i make others happy which is hard when you're negative all the time.

Wow, that used to be me, the always smiling always glowing try to give it your best shot no matter what! attitude.
And now for some reason I'm a bitter ass.
I think I'll try to be nicer again.
Thanks for the inspiration.

Helping out my family, paying bills on time, walking in the woods, throwing a happy and nonconfrontational party, and taking a shit all make me happy about myself.
Feeding my cats, as well.
Finishing homework assignments.
Wearing cool sunglasses.

i try to do things that make me feel happy about myself. i'm always looking at the things i do, and i try to consider how they may be affecting my experience of life and my sense of self. i consider myself extremely lucky to have a steady job and a family, as i've found both of these are extremely rewarding toward that end. so i guess it would boil down to keeping occupied, for me.

I tried that and it felt like I was masking. Letting it out and venting works better for me...but it's not quite a guarantee.

@ sars, of course it's gotta be from the heart m'love. But there's definitely still the times where you gotta just be wading through it, you're right about that

I really value my time alone, but I also like to hang out with people I like to be around.
I love to ride my bike and get lost in the mountains, and once you get up them, you get to go down! It's weird, if you bike up a mountain, the way down almost seams longer because the way up your working so hard your mind is all over and time just flys. Computer games, going on a walk for some arizona ice tea. go to bed early, anything that pleases me.
