lesion on gums
for the past week i have had this sore on my gums and i dont know what it is or whether or not it might be something serious
first it was just red, then it started looking white, kind of like a pimple except its hard. today i am noticing it is hurting a little bit more than usual and the white area is larger, about 7mm diameter circle.
i am supposed to go on a 4 day hiking trip in georgia (far away) tommorow and dont want to be in the middle of the woods and find out that i have some serious health problem
i looked on google pertaining to canker sores and they seem to be more often on the inside of the cheek, so i am not sure.
has anyone ever experienced something like this? does it sound like just a canker sore or could it be something worse?

Do you smoke tobacco or dip?
If not then it is most likely a simple canker sore (assuming you don't have a fever) that can occur on your gums. The fact that it looks like a pimple means that you might have bit it in your sleep and that is causing most of the pain. It should run its course, but if it doesn't go away in a week, you might want to go see a doctor. Swishing hydrogen peroxide will be disgusting, but will clean out the sore and maybe prevent infection (it will turn any abrasions in your mouth white, however, for a little bit). Best of luck.

I agree with xMSx, it's most likely a canker sore. I've had a few on my gums and they're a lot worse than the ones you get on your lip or cheek. I always use Listerine to disinfect the area, and from my own experience it has always helped it heal more quickly. Do you remember if you could have accidentally cut your gum? Cause I've noticed that I'll get a canker sore if I accidentally bite my lip or something.

It sounds like a cyst or abscess, take a trip to your dentist, they might give you some antibiotic's or drain it or w/e..
I had something like that but its been so long I can't remember much of the details, a dentist will know
Its nothing thats gonna kill you, but it might hurt like shit and ruin your trip if you dont get it checked before you leave

Sure does sound like a cyst.....if it were me and I was heading out for a few days, I'd be looking for "Golden Thread".........dunn o if it grows in your area but it's the short plant with a slightly shing leaf that resembles wild strawberries and had a bright yellow thread like root. It's the root that you'd put on the sore aggravated spot.
I've used many, many times and it works. (Natives call this plant a cure-all!)
Has natural pain-killers and natural anti-biotic properties. I had posted some up way back but it disappeared! I could google it up....might still be in my camera too!

While i look in my camera......i googled up the Golden Thread (Fil d'or) and here's the plant. We chew the golden colored root and keep it on the sore spot.

That's what I was thinking. I had an infected molar when I was maybe 13 or so, and it started out red and turned into a big white cyst that of course had to be drained and treated. They weren't able to pull the tooth, but it was a baby tooth and fell out shortly after. It wasn't terribly painful at any point, more like a very general, broad pain. Not the sharp stinging pain you usually get in your mouth.
Good luck. I know how much of a drag it can be having to cancel plans because of some bs health issue, but sometimes you have to play it safe, although you have to make that call. For what it's worth, I probably waited a week after the cyst developed to go to the dentists, but the sooner you take care of it the better.
Come to think of it, I had to have been younger than 13.

I swish water with baking soda in it for canker sores. Tastes bad, but it does the trick.
