moving sucks

.

but seriously. i think i have too much in terms of stuff. it's all books that the uni wouldn't buy back, really, but i feel like the majority are books worth having, if you're going to have them at all.

and life after graduation sucks. how does one deal with the 9-5? and let's not forget the part-time. I haven't gotten it all straight yet. No time to... anything. But come home, drink a beer which feels fucking amazing and smoke a joint, maybe, if i'm not too slutty from the day's labors, and then crash. crash in an un-moved in-to apartment. what a raw deal i feel like i've got. and it's not like my job isn't compromising my morals or anything. let's leave it at this: i took philosophy, and it impacts the way i look at what i do at work.

i want to go to school again. going to graduate school seems like forever away, and i don't know how i could ever convince that i'm somebody that could hack it so they'll pay me. it's funny, when i was a kid, i thought that i was real hot shit, real confident and all, but i lost that real quick. after getting a degree, i feel a bit more so. i feel like it's something legitimate.

blah. fuck that.

i gotta go move in more. peace.

how does one deal with a 9-5?

The way I look at it, the day that I dropped out of HS and started working full time was the day that I became less of a man and more of a machine. A machine where things go to get done. You've just got to occupy your mind with other shit, philosophy is good for that because if you're working a job that doesn't demand verbal communication you can get lost in your philosophical thoughts (I used to have 6 or 7 hour conversations with a philosophy major at my old job... shit makes time fly).

As unattractive as a life's worth of 9-5s presumably ahead of you may seem, it's important to realize that the beer and joint you enjoy when you get home wouldn't be available if you hadn't been working that 9-5. Nor would your apartment. Life is about making compromises - rarely can you have your cake and eat it too.

I don't know about your sleeping patterns but I used to really struggle with feeling like all I was doing was working, there wasn't enough time in the day to do anything I wanted, it was shift, bong rips, bed. over over over again. Try waking up real early, like at the crack of dawn. Or at least afford yourself a nice few hours before you start work or something just for some personal time or whatever.

I dunno. You'll make it work for you though, I'm sure of it. Adjusting is hard, but it'll be second nature soon enough. The worst thing about people is that they can get used to anything.

Your working the wrong job.

Find what you love to do and what your good at and then find a job that allows you to pursue those things. If your in the right line of 'work', work isn't work. Seriously.

If your living your live just to come home and have a smoke and beer then man, I would seriously tell you to reevaluate what your objective in life is.

Goodluck.

What would you do if you could have any job?
What are you hobbies or interests?
What about what you learned from your philosohpy class changes the way you look at your present work?
How could you make your philosophy work for you?
Could the lessons learned be used more broadly?

I can't really make suggestion about how you could use those lessons in other fields until you say what your view point is concerning viewing your present work.

There is always alot of need in any helping human fields.

I don't know what you do for work right now, but is there a way you can incorperate you life into your job, like think about what you want to while you work or a person to connect with?

My rule of thumb for moving is, if I haven't worn it in a year, give it away. If I haven't read it in a year and isn't reference, give it away. If you lost is and just found it, assess how you got by without it. And is it cheaper to buy off craig's list, because sometimes depending on how far you move, its worth just buying a new bookshelf for $10, instead of spending $$ on a uhaul just to fit it. How old is your bed? Is it time for a new matress?

Just things like that.

Concerning your job. Just try to see it as a means to an end, and work on figuring out what you want to do in the end.....of your day or week working.

Good luck man, and please keep us informed.

In loving kindness,
Sage

it's like i say, i can't be too specific about what i do. it's weird. ok, so the clients are people that do good stuff but in such a way that i can't say i'm gung-ho about the overall mission. it's a non-profit, so i like that, and there might be some room for some upward mobility, or at least some sideways mobility so i can do something that's a little bit more in line with what i want, but that's maybe six months to a year down the line and until then i have to impress if i want to go anywhere... idk. it's not like there's a very big job market right now, either, and i've been working there for a few years and i just started full time after my job so i'm somewhat comfortable with what i do, it's just kind of bullshit and it's a lot and there's all this politicking around the office which is just stupid, considering what we do. i see this job lasting as long as it takes to get through grad school, or until i find something that's more in line with what i've got sights set on. so five to seven years, maybe? i like what the longterm might bring, but the day-to-day is a little tedious and kind of nonsensical. idk. you guys are great, like i say, i'm breaking my neck trying to move in and work a sixty hour week, so i haven't had a lot of time to be on the hooka. this place always brings a smile, tho.

much love.

5-7 is a long time. Funding for grad studies is getting harder to get these days too. My wife is a grad student, I feel ya. Office politicing stinks no doubt, but it sounds like you know what your goal is, so the means is just you finding a space in your head that will serve you well. Perhaps think of the people you are helping via the non-profit and do it for them. Is there a way you can connect with them on a more personal basis? When my wife worked for a specific cancer society she often would go to fundraisers and events for the people she was supporting via the society. It was hard seeing little bald 3 yr olds, but it really left her with the sense of WHY she was there. Her office sounded alot the same.

Face to Face is hard, but having a mindfull space in your head is a place where no one can touch you, a place where you are unshaken about the a few whys in your life, or something like that.

Keep your head up and keep striving man. It sounds like you know what you want.

The best homes are the ones that take the longest to figure out.

Patience mang, don't expect to have everything all honky dory in your 20s, just do what you gotta do today to catch the dream tomorrow.

^ Yes.

I'm 27 and I'm just living and enjoying. I don't have A career, other than I'm good with plants. But this isn't my goal and aspiration. I am finally now only seeing a career interest for me now and even that is still wide open. Practice gratitude for the small things like fresh milk on your cereal or someone holding a door. Start with the small things and they will support what feels like a leaning tower of larger things right now.
