Lemon Skunk Grow

Hi all,

Well I did this like a russian space program, I saved my grow log until after the grow, that way if it failed I wouldn't have to tell anyone about it. But it didn't fail so here it is!

I bought some Lemon Skunk seeds from Jordan of the Islands while up in Vancouver last fall. I planted 3 in November, the following is the results. Lemon Skunk is Skunk #1 and Citrus Skunk crossed. It is reputed to be a pretty heady high for a fairly compact plant. I was looking for something that would be pretty 'spacey' in the quality of high while having the plant still fit in my 3 foot high growing space.

I am using an all hydro grow using rockwool to start seeds and then moving to a DWC setup for veg and flower. I am using a 400 watt HPS lamp. I am using Dutch Master nutrients (including Advance Grow and Flower, Max Grow and Flower, Potash Plus, Zone and Silica).

Since it's not terribly clear in the log, there are 2 plants growing, the one on the right in the photos (plant B) turned out to be male, so this grow resulted in harvesting just one female plant.

2006-11-10 Lemon skunk seeds popped

2 seeds planted a few days ago in 1 inch rockwool cubes moistened with tapwater popped. A 3rd popped 2 days later, then died.

Imediately I see what looks like bad nutrient burn on the 1st true leaves, the outer edges of the leaves turn yellow, dry, and brittle, and will break off to the touch. The plants have enough energy to put out more leaves and these are healthy.

Seedlings took root quickly in their small cubes and were 'potted up' to 2.5x3x3 inch rockwool cubes.

Once roots were coming through the new cubes they were put into the DWC setup under 430 watt Son Agro HPS. Plants now have 3 sets of true leaves and shows very short internodes.

Nutrients were added at 520ppm.

2006-12-07

New growth looks very healthy, bottom leaf is yellowing. Branching already apparent. Roots have grown out the bottom of the DWC net pots by about 3 inches.

Nutrients upped to 800ppm.





2006-12-14

Plant is branching like crazy, much wider than tall at this point. Huge fan leaves are about 7" across. Roots have grown to 6".

Nutrients upped to full strength, even a little overboard at 1800-2000ppm.





2006-12-15

The great NW power outage hits-- no power for 3 days! Plants are removed from DWC and placed in bathtub, the room is heated and lit by a couple candles. Roots are misted frequently throughout the day.

Plant A autoflowers from the stress and is female! Otherwise plants survive the outage fine.

Upon returning the plants to their DWC setup they got some more nutrient burn when placed back in their 1800ppm tank. Nutes reduced to 1200 for a couple days, then raised back up to 1800. Nutrient burn stopped.

FLOWER!

Aside from a little nutrient burn on the langest fan leaf, plant is super healthy. Still wider than tall, but it has grown in both directions signifigantly.

Switched plants to flower nutrients, keeping levels at about 1800ppm. Light switched to 12/12 day/night configuration.

2006-12-30

Plants have put forth a huge growth spurt. Plant B is huge, plant A has doubled in height. Unfortunately, plant B is showing male flowers, and was immediately chopped down, leaving a single female plant.

2007-01-18

Plant A has continued to stretch, entering flower at just over 1', it is now about 3'. Since there is only one plant, I have allowed it to spread out so lower branches will also get some light. This is a very branchy plant so it is easy enough to do.

Bud sites are showing lots of healthy growth, top cola isn't doing much though. Not sure what to expect from this strain, though, so I may be expecting too much.

2007-02-16

Harvest! It is probably about a week early, but I have a friend visiting and wanted to give them a special occasion. Plant is cut and wet manicured, hash is made, and the harvest is left to dry.

Oh yeah, guess I should do a smoke report. The buds are dry now and are starting to cure, so it's a good time for it. Smoke is very floral and sweet, the buds themselves are also very sweet smelling. Having not knowingly smoked a skunk before, I was expecting something, well, skunky. But after some reading I guess it's all in the name and that skunks are really not sour or stinky after all. The high is very strong, a good heady experience but with a healthy amount of body high as well. I would say it is pretty evenly balanced. The strain is around 35% sativa. The buds are light green with a healthy crystal frosting of triches. It looks MUCH better than any weed I've bought around here in my 9 years living in this town. Looks more like the stuff I got in Alaska from all the home growers up there. All in all, I'm very proud. This one plant yeilded almost as much as 3 plants in my previous grow, so I know I must be doing something right (or at least better than last time). I took some clones when I put the plants into veg, and those are starting flower now, it is my 1st clone grow, and my 1st attempt at pruning plants, so we'll see where that goes. I will try to post some pics of the cured result shortly.

I know what you mean about the citrus/floral smell and taste; I suspect my tubgirls came from either Lemon or Citrus Skunk bagseed. Super energetic high, (actual) orange taste on smoke, floral/hashy exhale, lots of expansion. The leaf shape/plant structure was also very similar to the plants shown in your photos. And my apt never stunk; it smelled like a flower shop.

When I do purchase seeds, it will be Lemon Skunk.
