Rocks, lakes n treez

As a botlanist...
Wandering around I have spotted some curious plants, and as a sympathizer of the green movement I figured I would make a photo log of them.
This ones biggest now, but closely followed by its buddy who used to be bigger, but now has many battle scars.

Its hard to see, but the second one has been being eaten away at by I assume some sort of leaf eating insect and is doing fine, but has many holes in its leaves.

K new pics
Some of the plants were transfered the other day and I wanted to see how they were. I also tried to get a pic of every plant (except some of the far away ones, didn't want to go through the marsh to get there today..). There must be about 30, but only 7ish are really getting bigger at any respectable rate. The others I assume, cant penetrate deep enough because they were planted straight from the seeds (I am guessing, because I certainly didn't put them there!) in the bush and the ground wasn't dug down as deep as I now feel it should have been for many of them. I'm also trying to organize the pics so the progression is easier to see, but for now I'm just gonna post some new ones for you guys.
^this one has been transplanted twice, the second time to give it a deeper worked bed in a sunnier spot. Hopefully it will grow bigger this way if its roots can penetrate deeper, though the clay underneath was not very far away and everything near it is pretty poor looking. These ones started outside in a bed with others, but they were pretty crowded so I took three of them out and two ended up here. I am optimistic about them, the move didn't seem to hurt any. Woah these two have just really taken off recently. There must be some good soil in this spot, the grass around it is quite plentiful and prickly. I like this spot because it feels really safe from discovery. My sexy, fat looking from the macro angle, hand. ^^ these two have the deepest green right now. Well I took more pics but somehow I cant find them. I will get more another time then. But to finish here is three of my very small ones that havn't really gotten any bigger in a month and are only about 3 inches tall. They're continuing to get new leaf 'whirls' though, up to their 4th level now.

looking a bit yellow. Give'em some Calmag and nute a bit more, that'll fix'em up.
on a different note, my friends and I used to hang out in drainage pipes. ![]() might also want to think about bringing in your own soil. Just dig a big hole, fill it with your own, and replant. Last edited by Michigan_Militia; 06-21-2007 at 01:44 PM. |

Soory, I keep forgetting that I'm old (like cryptkeeper old) and you whippersnappers ain't.
Maynard (played by Bob Denver) was Dobie Gillis' beatnick buddy from the early 60's TV show Dobie Gillis. Tag line was "Good stuff, Maynard!" I call most people Maynard.

oh eheheh, I was thinking of the Tool singer, or maybe I had somehow referred to myself as that name one time. OK, so I admit while I was out there I broke off some of the dead leaves from some plants and smoked them when I got home. I just wanted to see what it was like!? Okay? Just chill out.

My cat seemed to like stoned people, too. I snapped this pic when my neighbor was up smoking me out one time. She just snuggled right up. She's no longer with us, tho.

They look fine to me Canuck. If the soil is prone to drying out, adding mulch around the base of the plants will help alot with moisture retention. Any dead organic matter(leaves/twigs/cow shit/animal shit/dead grass etc) you can find around the vicinity can be used as long as it is based on a range of material instead of say just dead grass. Balance is key.
The clay you speak of...I hope you dug it well any way - worked that soil and mixed that clay with the upper portions of the good top soil to help produce a nice blend and to airate the entire mix. The clay can be worked to some extent and while its labour intensive, can be done and indeed clay has positive attributes in some circumstances such as water retention which would be a bonus during drought say, when sandy or loam soil types would dry out quickly. Not to mention, clay is often rich in nutrients and minerals as compared to other soil types. I myself would never bring any store bought soil to a site but would use what soil was there especially because unless existing soil consists of just clay, or just sand, or rock...natures soil is best. If you insist in carting potting mix how ever far...it will be good...but far from necessary and you'd be better off carting more seedlings/clones and not taking any soil. Carting in manure, or soil additives on the other hand...is a bonus. I'd expect from this point on the real healthy seedlings will begin to take off now. Amazing what you can find when you keep your eyes peeled ain't it ![]()

typically, i take in a 5 gallon pail of potting soil mix, dig about a 18 inches deep, (just loosening the soil, not digging it out). sift out rocks and roots and everything, mix in the potting soil half and half with nature. some bone meal and blood meal. holes are pre dug and treated with lime a few days ahead of time. then you plant. and slug bait and yes, i admit i use miracle grow... the slow release pellets. just throw em on top of the soil, feeds 3 months, works really well to grow a big plant. the bloom boost works well too, only thing is you have to flush for 2-3 weeks i would say... this year i think im going to try the molasses during the flush. idk if the soil really makes a big difference or not. like kosh said, if you pick a good spot, natures soil is plenty fine to grow in, and if you add your own nutes when watering and whatnot, youll be fine. I know people who dig holes about holes probaly 2-3 feet deep and use all top knotch soil mixes and shit.... its a lot of work, but have you ever seen a 14 foor tall plant? personally, outdoors. i think the biggest fac |
