Me too. Even though dark is just the absence of light and doesn't really exist per se, it still 'replaces' light at the precise speed that light departs.

darkness does exist, it's just defined as the absense of light.
just like being cold describes the absense of heat energy.
total darknes, or absolutely no light energy available, would not be measurable, since there is no light energy available to measure, therefore nothing to reference. To measure speed, we need a few variables. an object, or some type of energy, a distance, and time. In darkness there is no reference to any type of object or energy, therefore a part of the equation is missing, so it would be deemed immeasurable.

I'm not sure this is analogous. The temperature of something is related to the motion of the particles of that thing. Cold describes slower particle movement than does hot. Cold is not just the absence of heat.

Cold is lower amount of heat. The complete absence of heat is absolute zero. -273.15 C. Can't ever be measured because to do so would get heat into the test. The analogy is accurate enough.

I have been reading alot about hw we are actually in the process of collecting dark matter deep underground. They think the only way to get dark mattber by itself is through capturing it as it filters through our earths crust. Pretty cool stuff. Funny thing is all they haven't gotten one dust pube of dark matter. It's only a matter of time. When we get that first spec OH BOY! A bunch of crazy shit will be starting to pop up as not only possible but possible withing a decade of DM being obtained. This is some of what I have read and gathered from the history channel. Check out the universe. AWSOME show!.

I wouldn't say dark matter is all that related to what we understand to be darkness. That is to say I would not claim that a dark room is full of dark matter/energy and when the light switch is hit that this dark matter/energy vacates the room.

However dark matter is a wicked thing to think about.

Dark energy is theorized to make up around 3/4 of the matter/energy of the universe. Dark matter and what can be seen make up the other 1/4. There are different candidates for what form dark matter/energy can take. If you're interested check into it via wikipedia or something. It's a cool concept.

300 years from now, if we as a species survive will have learned how to harness dark matter, and quite possibly use it as a way to travel infinite distances only programmed into a computer on a ship like the shuttle, but black and shaped kind of like the SR - 71 blackbird....we will be able to go anywhere, making contact possible (likely) with a species similar to ours. the only problem with that is we can barely measure Dark Matter as is i mean we know its there we know it makes up about 24% of the known universe its jsut it doesnt react with us or anything we physically can observe lol quantum physics will be the thing to make us go faster than light
