Memory
What do you think about the idea that everything we see is recorded and accessible somehow..? Savant's are generally able to recall all things down to the last detail. I think to improve memory to that level would involve improving all aspects of the imagination.. how vivid pictures or other senses can actually be in your own mind. Its more than just remembering through association.. its right there when you want to see it. Memories are indeed most excellent. It helped me to write this.

This is a very interesting topic! The last information that I read about memory was some research recording the activity within the brain during recall. Long story short, it doesn't seem to come from one area of the brain but there are several areas 'active' during recall and scientists do not yet (last I knew) understand it. There is a theory that it is not stored in the brain at all.
I've undergone hypnosis for the purpose of therapy around 5 times now. At first (this is just my experience... could be different for different people, I'd imagine), the memory is fairly vague.... it could even be a 'generalized' memory to represent a certain event (for me, abuse) that happened repeatedly. But then, as the memory is processed and explored with the therapist, it becomes more solid and real and the truth of the past which has become distorted through time becomes more clear. It's like... the memory of songs (my own example, again) become distorted. Because I enjoy writing music, my mind rearranges the music until I have a very different version of it from what it really was (music I heard as a child). I've actually asked my mom, "Where's the real version that we used to listen to?" and she would tell me that's the only one we ever had. So, how much of our memory is actually true, objective happenings and how much is distorted by the process of making sense out of it at various stages and our lack of understanding of events? Another thing, I think we have access to MUCH MORE than we recognize. We pick out certain things to focus on. Right now, I'm typing this message to you and if I were to recall this event, that's what I would remember. However, at the same time the wind is blowing pretty hard outside, the television is playing, my daughter is fixing something to eat in the kitchen, my stomach is cramping. The memory that is most 'retrievable' is dependent upon what we are focused on. However, my belief is that everything that is around... whether I can see it or not, is being taken in (or rather filtered out) through my 'mind?'. This is why we have such things as the 11:11 phenomena and this is why some of us have been warned of danger ahead of time. We would not be able to live this life if our focus was on ALL things... so, it is on those things that we direct our attention to with our will. ![]()

Just a quick thought.. more of a reply to come later..
At the moment I am learning a different language and I will scan what I think is reasonably randomly through the on-line dictionary so I can pick up new words.. and the words I chose to focus more are extremely reflective on how I feel or how my day went. Oh and I have always liked the holographic theory of memory. I will dig up some information on that. Nice post SS. I will be back.. M |
