Food for Thought- Which one is true
Me and my mom was talking the other day about the bible and science. I know most people don't like to question their religion because they think it's taboo or blasphemy, I know i'm not the perfect christian but nonetheless I am one and I don't like to question it either. If you really think about it the christian bible is from africa (duh, because that's where isreal and those other cities are at) so that means it had to be translated. How do we know that the bible isn't one of the greatest stories ever told. Since it hasd to be translated anyone could have changed it up or just misinterpreted. Like in science ther is proof of dinosaur bones but they never mention dinosaurs in the bible. Another thing is thatthe bible says that we were created from adam and eve but science says that we evolved from monkeys i wouldn't be surprised if some people were lol). Not only that, is there any proof of the bible ever truly exsiting, were's the original copy they have the original copy of everything thing else or atleast part of it.
Now that's whole fucking meal for thought. |

Your right, the Bible is a great story. Its a great story about what it is to be human.
Its about the spiritual story, the spiritual growth of each and every one of us, and all of us, as humans. Humans make mistakes, have subjected, limited perspectives. But we also have moments of clarity, and good, great decisions and understandings that are immortal and speak to the human experience. There is a lot of awe inspiring wisdom in the bible, especially the gospels, the story of Jesus. But there is also stuff in there that needs to be contextualized. The bible is not a complete history of the world. Why would you expect there to be dinosaurs in the bible. I personally 'believe' the creation story, for example, but I don't take it so literally as to believe the planet earth has only been around 5000 years. Think about it rationally, what is the bible? Of course it was written by man, not God. Its a material book. What kind of book (books being a tool of mankind), was not written by humans? To think otherwise is absolutely absurd. But thats no reason to not have faith in God, that the universe and creation itself loves you entirely. Jesus happened. Judaism happened. Whether or not you like it, these things are part of history (even if Jesus was not even a real individual, or didn't rise from the dead) and they form the human outlook on planet earth today. I say, the most important message to take away from the bible is to have faith that whats happening is right. You have your choices to make, and responsibility to take, but your just a human, an animal, and can only do so much in this body. Try and have grace, try and love one another. Thats what matters.

I question lots of shit, or reflect and think discerningly about lots of things in the bible, especially the old test. But I'm likely going to 'be a christian' till I die, its the way I was raised.
It gives me grounding, and something to tie my decisions to, that is bigger than myself. It gives me comfort and justifies my faith that everything will be okay. |
