when i think of the time ive spent.....

no the honest answer is no, Siddhartha Gotama wrote NOTHING, however the buddha said lots, and his more keen disciples wrote tons of stuff that was supposedly from his mouth

the pali cannon is the longest 'holy book' of all

learn pali and read it then, always 'something' is lost in translation, but that's just an ugly truth, people who are interesed in the Buddha must all still read the pali-cannon, in any languange, without that what the fuck is their as far as foundation goes?

i love it when people learn Hebrew just too read the bible, i love that shit

i likely hate the person, but nonetheless i love that they made that effort, because that is an effort towards understanding, without an inkling of seriousness or 'truth'

my prioritization of drives my inclinations, my responsibility
the same way i refuse to explain every little thing

i d/k

Isn't the Pali Canon like thousands of chapters? Are there any kind of condensed, and English versions until I can learn a new language?

www.Buddhanet.net has the Tripitaka available

Pali Canon history via Wiki.

There is a link to a library of texts in Spitual Smoke stickied at the top. http://www.sacred-texts.com/map.htm

This is a good place to find lots of sources for reading and history of the writings.

The Dhammapada is generally attributed to the sayings of the Buddha as well, however it's true, he's was said to only be on record, not write the record himself.

Feel free to keep asking away. Buddha's Dharma is something I love to discuss and help others in finding out more.
