Replacing "Stoner"
Ive always thought the label "Stoner" was a tad negative. I really dont like to refer to myself as a stoner, although Im certainly not ashamed to admit I love to smoke the herb. Obviously there is never going to be a name attached to those who like to smoke that is going to be accepted positively in society, but I think stoner just relates too closely to slacker. How do yall feel about people calling you a stoner? Any good ideas for a replacement label?
Just throwing shit into the wind....

I call myself a medical marijuana patient, because that's what I am. When I speak to others who have a California MMJ Recommendation we refer to each other as "patients" or "not patients."
I don't use "stoner" in company with other patients to refer to other patients. If I use stoner then it denotes someone who doesn't have their recommendation, and is self-medicating illegally. Of course in California, if you want to smoke MJ, you should just get yourself a recommendation, it's like $100 a year "get out of trouble" card. |

Yea, I don't quite identify with "stoner." I feel like a stone when I am drunk.
When I am high, I feel clear. "Stoned" does not really describe the feeling I get when I vapor herb. Now, of course, Indica makes me feel a bit couch locked so maybe stoned refers to that feeling. But I don't really consider myself a medical patient either. I just LIKE herb. I am a cannabis afficianada. Also, I believe that weed is illegal to suppress black, latino, and leftist minorities. Fuck labels and rightist frameworks.

I don't think stoner's necessarily negative, but I don't see any need to self-identify based on drug of choice. I don't call myself a coffeeist because I like coffee.

Feds don't care about the patients, and since there's no Federal police force to enforce "federal" law, it's not really an issue. Even if some stupid ass cop decides to arrest me for possession, as long as I'm carrying under an ounce, the arrest will get tossed out of court and I should even be able to get my meds back.

I am not a stoner, nor am I a pothead, and even though I do have a doctor’s recommendation to use cannabis, I do not even refer to myself as a medical marijuana patient. My responsible an infrequent use of cannabis does not define me anymore than eating bread makes me a bread-eater, or taking my dog for a jog makes me an athlete, or my prescription for Lipitor and low dose aspirin makes me a heart patient.
I do believe however, that a person’s overindulgence or dependence on any substance CAN define them. Just as someone who runs marathons has earned the title of “athlete”, so does a person who regularly drinks on the job and while driving has earned the title of being a “drunk”, and someone who is goes through an ounce of weed as fast as they can makes them a pothead. A six-pack of beer typically lasts about a month in our refrigerator, an ounce of pot will last my wife and I six months, but a half-gallon of ice cream may only survive for ten minutes in our house. I guess we all have our vices, and far more people die of complications due to cholesterol than Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol . So if I had to define myself based on my overindulgence or dependence of a substance, a more apt label than “stoner” for me would be “fat-ass”.

It's just a slang word used to describe people that get stoned. If there were a slang term for people who like coffee, you'd be called it whether you self-identified with it or not. Therefore, by the slang definition, I am a stoner.

I reffer -myself- as a easy going guy, i.e. slacker. i get high, listen to music, watch movies and eat. Im busy enough at work... even though it is only 3 days a week, it's hard, long hour back breaking work! oddly, or not oddly, enough i dont touch my sweet leaf on the days that i work..too tired. i like for things to be peaceful and loving man.
![]() i dont need alot of money to make me happy. i dont want a lot of materials to satisfy me. i just want a trailer to sit with my cat or dog, watch my movies, smoke my sweet leaf, listen to my records and have a good time with my buds (no punn intended). so whatever that makes me--that's exactly what i am ![]() |

I don't really think stoner is negative, but i don't think of it as positive either. i don't think anyone likes being labeled, and people that smoke aren't any exception. Never been an issue for me
