And i officially don't have cancer, so life is a lot sweeter without worrying about that!

I had ovarian cancer. it runs in my family, young or old, my 30 year old cousin will most likely die from hers, (hers was already in her bones), my aunt as well, although she is older, (but she has survived almost a year longer then they thought she would) and my grandmother already died from it.

i was lucky they caught it so early that it was curable (we all got tested when grandma died), my other relatives were not so lucky. they think perhaps if they had been tested at my age or younger they would have already had some smaller tumors as well. since we don't know how fast it progresses from the first and second stages to the last, only that once in the last stages it is a very aggressive cancer and usually uncurable.

it's been almost 2 years since i was first diagnosed and has deffinitly not been a fun experience. it's like a huge weight lifting. the last few months has just been waiting to see if anything will show up. since nothing has the chances now are a lot lower. i still have to be tested every 6 months for the rest of my life jsut in case though. i will probably get a historectomy as soon as i am done having children since this type of cancer is often reoccuring. (my grandmother was cured twice of it before it killed her the third time.)

I'm new around here, but I have had a few family members and friends die from cancer, and I'm glad to see that you're doing better. Congratulations on making it through, and keep on kickin' the crap outta cancer!

i know this is an old thread, but its still good news. shit sucks. badly.

what is it now? during ones lifetime, you have a one in two chance of getting cancer if you are a male, and a one in three chance if you are a female, in the united states...

i think it's switched around (1 in 2 for females, 1 in 3 for males) but that doesn't change the fact that it's much more common then they thought even a decade ago.

and i'm still cancer free so still good news! yeah lol and my aunt is still alive, also good news, although she is getting more and more worn out.

my grandpa just died in sept of prostate cancer (sorta the male equiv of ovarian cancer) so that is probably another reason that there are so many in our family with it, because both grandma and grandpa had related cancers and if it's genetic (which considering my fam i think it is) we had risk factors from them both.
