i just tell people who are friends, tho. acquaintences don't need to know that about me. not that i really care too much, but i don't advertise to mere acquaintences.
last year when i met my friend 'r', who has since become one of my closest friends, i told her right after we finished playing tennis for the first time. turns out, she was a smoker, too. never woulda guessed it by looking at her, but i knew somehow that she wouldn't judge me.

Yeah, I have to agree with spicoli here. I don't let people who I'm not at least friendly with. It's my business, ya know? I don't know, the situation has never really come up for me unless it was a friend of a friend I guess.

Where I've worked for the past seven years I already am pretty certain who smokes and who does not. The safest way has been the joke method mentioned by Ziggy. Another way is sounding them out via political discussion. Yet although we all pretty much know who does and who doesn't, I've only smoked with one colleague in the last seven years, and I've only had frank discussions about marijuana with one other who was going through chemotherapy and needed to know the procedure for getting a doctor's recommendation.

As we get older things change. Just because you know the other person does, doesn't mean you're going to get together and share a joint anymore than just because we both like beer we're going to start hanging out in bars together. I’m uncomfortable crossing that line, because if I do I’m potentially leaving myself wide open to the gossip mill at the very least. And in my profession gossip can end your career.

It was a lot different back in the days of pizza delivery.

It depends on the person and the environment. Casual acquantance I'll usually make an off handed 420 comment and wait for their reaction. In a professional atmosphere it will usually come out in political or medical discussions. In other environments it depends on the person. sometimes it's just a straight forward "Do you get high?"

Mention you have friends who are down with the weed, and see how far they go into it, but come off as your down.

Or you could not beat around the bush and realize that smoking weed isn't some deep secrete or a flaw, and ask, you know? I know I appreciate hoensty cuz it saves time.

like the black dude cory smokes, the white dude billy smokes. these guys are both 37.

then theres the women there that get fucked on xanax cause there prescribed its pretty obvious they do it and i know this cause i was told this by the guys that smoke.

then theres me and my other dude me 19 and him 20 that both smoke too.

Usually you can tell by looking at them or there personality, or just ask them whats the worst they could say no i don't smoke.

I feel pretty much the same way with my everyday office colleagues, but every once in a while i run across someone that i try this on.

I start by bringing up parting stories from college/highschool etc. If they share some that involve weed i lead in with "ya know i ran into one of my college buddies a few weeks ago and he's still living in those days he gave me a joint and i've been waiting for the perfect time to try it out"....

Its worked the two times i've tried, but i had a good comfort level with both of them. Both are still great friends to this day!
