MGS4 is quite a bit different than the other MGS games because a few key things.
1. The free-floating 3rd person camera. Instead of mgs1, 2 & 3 (excluding the special edition which included the new camera) where the camera is fixed, in this one you can manipulate it however you want. 2. Wide-open environments. This game features several areas which offer fairly open-ended ways of approaching them. Because of the game's massive and detailed levels which offer multiple routes, combined with the HUGE arsenal (I'm talking 40-50+ weapons) and the fact that you're in the middle of a war for a large part of the game, this MGS offers you so much more in terms of possibility compared to the earlier ones (although mgs3 was pretty good for that as well) 3. The 'octocamo'. Basically just the new camo suit snake wears in this one which can blend in with any surrounding. This is wicked simply because of how fucking cool it looks. You can come into contact with any surface and your suit will automatically shift colours to match it. I still haven't gotten tired of how funky it looks. And I guess overall the game has a different feeling to it. MGS1 and 2 had a very similiar feeling to them. MGS3 was a bit different but not that different. This one feels truly different, like a real sequel. It's not without it's faults though. The game isn't any longer than the other games. It took me just over 20 hours for my first playthrough, and the cutscenes can be tiresome at times. But then again, this game offers excellent replayabiltiy with tons of unlockables and challenges, and you can skip the cutscenes if you choose to. All in all it's a kick ass game. But for you GHM? I'm not sure. I thought mgs2 kicked ass (but it was also the first one i played)

similar feeling? dude it was the same damn game from one to two...
seriously the exact same game, rewriten and wraped in a different skin... those new things are what i hate about new games, I dont have time to get good with 50 weapons, i like 5 at the most i can get bad ass with and really have some skill to make the game look good.... but i guess it just all looks so good now you dont need to be good to make the game look good, just point and press...and its movie action game time... im getting old and not doing it well...games just seem so out there now with all the shit you can and have to do... remember when we were happy with gta2 going to gta3 what an advancement right, we need another one of those....but were to spoiled now, now they want you to eat and work out in the game, next thing you know were going to be controlling heart function and kidney and liver function as well, and how far off is the next gta from making you have to piss, dude how annoying would that be...in the middle of a shootout with piss on your pants... i dunno broski, games just aint what they used to be.... I mostly play mame now, alot of the new arcade games they made are pretty cool, and alot of old ones i diddnt get to play cuz im not japanese are out, like there tons of fighting games i never got to play, plus mame is free, theres alot of games not worth money... we need more free gameing Last edited by GirlsHateMe; 07-31-2008 at 04:44 AM. |

....... You played MGS 1 and 2 and stopped playing cuz they were the same game? That's unfortunate... Really it is. You find out in part 4 that MGS 2 is simply a real world reenactment of the events of MGS 1. Long complicated story that actually began in 1988 With Metal Gear on Nintendo. Then part 2 on Sega, you played the third and fourth games, no wonder you didn't know wtf was going on. Metal Gear is in my opinion the best series of video games, period. But I have been playing them since the beginning. You, are pretty much just fucked. Oh and that whole advancment you were talking about? It has happened with games like BioShock, Assassin's Creed, Metal Gear, and a few others. The advancement IS story telling. Making it more like an interactive movie. Far cry from two plumbers trying to kill a giant reptile to save a Princess named Peach.... Wave of the future bro, sounds like you don't like it. Eh, sorry? ![]() |

Wow, you beat it? I've found the game really hard to be honest. Granted this was my first foray into the Metal gear series because I'd never owned a Sony console before. I still found it pretty challenging on all the difficulty levels.

I'm playing on Extreme right now and it's not too bad. Just gotta get good at games I guess. I've been playing them for a long time so there's not much out there that I find to be actually 'extreme' in difficulty.

I mean I game a lot, but I suppose playing games like metal gear a lot really do help. It takes some getting used to in order to get acclimated and comfortable with playing around in the world.

I've been very happy with this game. One of my favorite features (that I cannot believe wasn't in there before) is the ability to move in first person mode. You couple that with the very deep customization system for the weapons and that makes Snake deadlier than ever. It's a lot of fun running around and gunning even though that's not how the game is meant to be played.
