What to use to open a .DLL file?

I'm trying to open one, it keeps saying that I don't have the program to open it...
What can I use to open it?

Why are you trying to open a DLL file? From what I understand these are simply data files that some program would be using, not much point in opening them.

Okay DLL files are just files that store functions for programmers to import into their applications to save time and ease of functionality.

Are you trying to edit a .dll file? You can use C++, or Visual C++, probably any C language to create them. I'm not sure if you can just edit a .dll file I think their "compiled". I'd imagine you could get a free "visual studio express" version downloaded from Microsofts site.

The reason you can't read that file is because it is computer code... Similiar to opening a .bmp file in note-pad, the data stored in those files is not text. It's computer commands.

What I'm trying to do is "renew" my norton for 11 years....
It says to open the crack file... but it's a .dll file and I'm not good with computers so yea

Yah, you might as well reformat. Cracking an antivirus is basically giving the programmer the backdoor to your computer.

just go get a new version of a safe bittorrent site and it should come with a working crack.

Umm yah, keep talking out of your ass. You understand that the newer versions of Norton verify the registration every 90 days right? And that by applying a crack to Norton you are doing nothing more than changing the source from which it downloads its updates, while still showing symantec.com on the dialog window.

As for OS's, learn something about the way a computer works. If you have a bootsector virus, like the one thats included in 99/100 versions of ripped OS software, your antivirus won't show it, you won't see it on your hard drive.

OOTF has a good point in that you never know what you're getting with cracked software.

AS for the OP, .dll cracks aren't applied by opening the file but by placing the .dll in the folder of the program you want to crack. When it asks if you want to overwrite you say yes. Crack applied.

But unless you can open/decompile the file before hand so as to know what changes are being made i wouldn't do it.

As i said , Norton does forced checks every 90 days, until the check is done it won't download new definitions/updates. If you are downloading updates after the application of a crack to Norton know that you aren't downloading off of a Symantec server rather what ever server the crack writer has entered into the DLL file. If he is one of the few programmers who does it to keep software free the server would contain the original Symantec definitions, but otherwise you are opening a whole new problem for your computer.

Your computer is better off with you using your current version of norton with old definitions than trying to download new ones using a cracked version.

I just said fuck it, my thing for Norton expired.
I downloaded Avast!, I guess I'll see how it works out.
