Sick Wii Controls (NHL 2k9)

I just watched this video on gamespot that showcases the Wii controls in NHL 2k9. I have to say these are some of the best Wii sports controls I have seen since...wii sports. You can shoot fight and hit all with the wii-mote. With those controls I'm pretty confident I'm picking this up.

It's in the vid:

I don't know if the Wii controls can save this game. From the demo I played on my PS3, I was thoroughly unimpressed. Even watching that video made me cringe at how terrible the game looks and plays. This game doesn't even hold a candle to the EA Sports NHL series.

2k7 for xbox ftw. nhl 2008 is the worst hockey game ive ever played. graphically its decent but controls suck. you do everything with the right joy stick and skate with the left.

I suspect you didn't give it much of a chance. I absolutely love the NHL 08 controls, they are so much more innate and 'open'. For example, instead of just hitting a single button to 'deeke' an opponent, you can get creative with a large arsenal of moves available. The shooting is much more realistic, if you have the time to set up a wrist shot (by holding the stick out before flicking), you can let loose a rocket. While if you just want a quick release to pop it in from in tight, you can just flick it in.

I don't know, I just can't understand how you can even compare the games. The 2k series plays and looks like NHL 2001. There is no fluidity, the skating is ridiculously bad, the hits are choppy and unrealistic, and I could go on.

I actually think this game has come a long way. It looks better than last year and the wii controls are a huge selling point. I think it's way more realistic in any case, so I will definitely sacrifice graphics for good gameplay.

i see where your coming from but for me it seems kinda "arcade-ish". i am all about setting up plays with pro-control on the 2k series and can really make some great plays and one-timers. crashing the net and defense position also seem easier for me on the dpad. this is all IMO!

I prefer PC instead of WII. It's much better and easier and cooler. But indeed that kind of constrol remote is kind of cool

That's why I'm going to get it on the wii. I think for the older games that the PC really gave you a great deal of comfort with the controls. This is a whole new frontier though, it uses the waggle function for real actions that you'd use that motion for in the sport. I think it's awesome and as a former player, it's really cool that I can do that.
