Internet2 [Death of the Internet]

Well, two things:
a) It's really ironic that it's 2012 that this is all going down. b) The reason the internet is so successful is the freedom it has. If they restrict it, it will backfire on them because it will lose all it's appeal. It already was working on this model when it first hit consumers hands and it floundered until they gave unlimited access. The internet is great because you are in control of whatever sites you want to visit. If it's reduced to basic sites under corporate sponsoring, it will only retain a small percentage of it's current users. Furthermore, it would be a temporary thing at best. TV is not the TV it used to be. Not everything is 'on-demand' along with Tivo in which you can fast forward ads even. I highly doubt this is going to reach any fruition, no matter what model they test.

Won't fly. I could go on an on why this won't work but I'll just say this:
First, People have had a taste of the freedom. Restricting them down, even slowly, will cause a backlash. Second, People don't use just Amazon or E-Bay. They go do Digg, Fark, Boing-boing and other sites like YaHooka. Limiting or cutting off access to these sites may cause a backlash, but it also may cause an issue where people simply stop using internet2. It holds no interest any more out side of IM or e-mails (perhaps youtube or myspace/facebook if you have it). ..and perhaps that is what these corporations want? Like the guy said, it is conceivable that some of the major million and billionares got together and saw that the people were not buying news papers, were downloading their TV shows, movies and music, and were cutting into the profits. Seems far fetched but its possible. The only thing the guy forgets is that the US is very anti-monopoly. If the telecom industry would do something like this, they would get their asses handed to them by the US Government. Standard Oil, AT&T (ma bell for those of you old enough to remember that bloated company at it's peak), Microsoft.... everyone thought they were untouchable and had too many politicians paid off. I can see the Government bitch slapping the Telecoms with some strong laws if this were to go live. |

I don't know what internet program you're talking about, but I'm not saying any doomsay related, I just find it ironic because 2012 (through ancient prophecy, for what it's worth) is said to be a huge turning point in mankind's humanity.

the irony of this guy posting his video on youtube and then using youtube's intellectual rights as a condemnation and proof of what's going on is not lost on me.
there would be such a fuckin' backlash for this from so many people, I don't see how this would even remotely take over the "free" internet. edit: oh, it's Alex Jones. Take it with a grain of salt.

What's weird is that just because Alex Jones is obnoxiously loud and on the internet, people don't seem to realize that he makes his money the same way any tabloid does: overblown drama.

This better not happen, if it does, no more online gaming. I
And DAMN I can't wait for 2012. So much shit is supposed to happen. An asteroid hitting us, aliens, end of the world/new begining, now this.... Should be an exciting year, though most likely just disapointing. ![]() ![]() |
