Video Game Cliches

So I've been playing some old favorites on my dusty super NES lately and I've come across a few cliches that have survived from the old days of gaming, feel free to add to the list.

Explodey Barrels: Still prevalent in most FPS despite the fact I'm pretty sure terrorists don't hang around with a dozen barrels of gasoline at all times

Deadly Water: Another old school gaming cliche still used today, most notably for me in Assasins Creed. The main character is an uber badass who can kill with impunity but the guys allergic to water?

Female Characters: Either ditzy babes with huge tits or smart ass ass kicking babes with huge tits.

Main Characters Family Dies In Horrible Fashion: Self-explanitory, mostly seen in RPGs

Bullshit American Propaganda: Probably the one I hate the most. I was playing Call of Duty World at War, and while it's great game-play wise it suffers from the problem any WW2 game made in America suffers from, the fact the developers seem to think the war didn't start until we got involved.

First person shooters are so dully predictable these days they don't usually fit more than three niches: You're a badass beefed up American accented space cowboy who shits lightning and pisses switchblades, you're a badass beefed up American killing rabid, one dimensional Nazis, or you're a badass beefcake American killing rabid, one dimensional Arab/Russian/Chinese terrorists. All these games end inevitably with you massacaring the bad guys and their brown children, making the world safe again for whitey.

Call of Duty 4 had the cliches and stereotypes but what made that game shine in my eyes is that it treated western imperialism as a bad thing and didn't make American soldiers out to be the most Rambo motherfuckers alive.

1. Last Hope to save whichever fictional nation
2. Amnesia/piecing together whatever may have went down. . . .
3. Fighting your way through a specific location, then having to fight your way back out of the location. Basically backtracking
4. Killing a boss only to have him turn into some unknown/unseen uber boss.
5. And the worst to me; Game starts up , you are all badass with all of your abilities, then something happens causing you to spend the entire first half of the game searching for your lost gear/abilities.

Amnesia is a great one, can't believe I left it out.

Seriously you can't claim to be a gamer if you haven played through a dozen amnesia storylines..

But without getting to broad, writing is also is a big video game cliche. Even the good games have wooden dialouge and the people who write them must be smelly solcial pariahs who've never slept with a girl if they think this is how humans interact.
