Yes, the only diff is you may need to reformat a hard drive which is done EASILY with Disk Utility (which is in Applications/Utilities). It's an Intel machine that is designed to boot into OS X, RedHat, Windows, whatever. What parts would be different besides the quality of the design?

Also lol @ Apple's Chief Financial Officer being called Oppenheimer.

Apples and oranges. MS sells software, a majority of which is pre-installed on cheap PCs and netbooks and Apple primary revenue is there hardware with a superior OS as an added attraction. A better and obvious comparison would be to compare Apple computer sales to say HP, Toshiba, etc. Have you seen Dells sinking numbers? What are other hardware companies doing comparably? Another mistake that I need to correct yet again. And please provides some links to back anything you disagree with.

I used to fix all computers for a living. That included Macs. I've had plenty of experience with them amongst other platforms. Stop assuming just because I grew up with Windows means I didn't meander off into other platforms.

2) Love the GUI vs. Mac's
I don't get this one unless you never use Macs or use PCs 90% like my wife. If this is the case, you expect things to be more complicated than they are b/c that is what most experience with their Windows boxes. My wife for example I think feels this way (I had to show her how to set-up a new photo printer - Apple menu/System prefs/Printers (really uncomplicated but she's used to the PC way). I'm on a PC at work and make the choice to use a Mac at home b/c I have no issues and the GUI is like my right hand.
It's called personal preference, what a novel idea. I find the Mac GUI to be overly simplified. And the fact it took them that long to come up with a two button mouse is inexcusable. But I do agree, Macs are somewhat easier for the newcomer to the computer world...but to me, that's actually a detriment, not a benefit, to the advanced user.

3) Know how to fix Windows (thus, it doesn't break on me anymore either).
That's great for people who like to tinkle with their PCs. I prefer to use my Macs which never seems to need to be "fixed". I'm not saying things never go wrong, but then again, things go wrong with everything no matter how high end, just not nearly as often.
Ehhh, no. All my friends who own Macs have had some major shitty crashes with them with virtual no recovery and only 1-2 shops available to bring them to. They crash the same as PC's, except less people work with them...it's like a foreign car.

Quote:
4) Love wide variety of software selections
Tons of selection = tons of shit too. Also you could always boot into Windows to run any app you want at full speed under Windows if you REALLY need to.
I admit, very true and impressive facet of the Mac OS but ironic considering they are admitting they can't gain enough market share to support their own OS and need to emulate another.

5) Love being able to buy any part I want, not just 'Apple Approved"
You obviously have not been made aware that Apple runs under Intel now? You do not need to buy Apple approved parts.

Did I miss anything?
Yes, you did...you're an anal mac lover who tends to get extermely butthurt (pun).

And just because the processor is Intel doesn't make the parts compatible. It's the Unix Filesystem that tends to prevent cards from mounting correctly or there are simply no drivers written for them...because Mac still doesn't hold a strong enough share to motivate companies to support it.

As I said before, I think both are awesome. I really want to own both when the time comes. I think the Mac OS is a fantastic platform and I <3 Unix quite a bit, it's nearly bulletproof. But for compatibility, market share, parts, customization, UI accessibility and simple general preference, I choose Windows still. I look forward to the day where neither are the dominant choices and Red Hat/Ubuntu become major players...someday.

so I finally bit the bullet and made my choice. I went for the sexy imac. If it doesn't fulfill my gaming needs in a year or two, by then I'll know how to build pcs and will build one on my own (I'd do so anyway).
I'm super excited! I went to the mac store a few times this week and completely oggled the 27 inch screen. Size queen, and all.

It is unix. A Mac, using the Terminal can be as complex as you want it to be. Having as much experience with macs as you claim you should know this.

Keep telling yourself that. Do you even know what Time Machine is? You should since you know so much, right? Then you should know it backs up your ENTIRE system every hour to an external hard drive. So you are wrong again regarding the no recovery thing. A crash is different than say a logic board going bad - you do realize this, right? With Time Machine there is no way you can lose data unless it is a hardware issue.

AGAIN, Apple is a hardware company, that is their bread and butter. Apple just had there best 1/4 ever selling Macs and have gained an impressive 5% in only the last few year (they are at around 10%). Yeah, what a poor performing company! This with the worst economy in my generation.

As I've done with you, I simply correct people, they then get offended because they do not know what they are speaking of and start a fire by resorting to name calling. That is pretty much what every Mac thread turns into around here, with users being 90% PC users.

How about just booting into Windows for games and using a Mac for real stuff.

B/c most people can't use nix. Also, besides the elegance of Apple's hardware, OS X is just easier to use than any other, is more stable (ummm, again, I use XP @ work all day), and is almost invulnerable to viruses/trojan horses (unless the user is an idiot - and I never have "avoided a web-site" b/c of probable viruses).

You get what you pay for. Some just like to attempt to justify a sub-system (w/ anything Windows) by name calling and inaccurate statements. Booowhoo.

EPIC F-A-I_L Bring back Gates, stat (well, not Gates, but anybody but Balmer).

But again, little substance from the braniac Flamingnun who once again resorts to name calling because he has no argument. What character - I'm sure you are on the Harvard Debate Club making your parents extremely proud.

No really, hows your parents basement? I hear it starts to get chilly down there this time of the year. Make sure you have a good reliable space heater. I would hate for it to tip over causing you a horrible death.

From the MS employee:
Quote:
One of the things that people say an awful lot about the Apple Mac is that the OS is fantastic, that it’s very graphical and easy to use. What we’ve tried to do with Windows 7 […] is create a Mac look and feel in terms of graphics.
