just saw sage francis yesterday night. buck 65, buddy wakefield and alias were there too; it was pretty much awesome. it wasnt so much a concert so much as a show at the cat's cradle.

I just found out the Austin City Limits festival is going to be on my birthday, so I thought it couldnt get much better than turning 21, getting drunk, and seeing Bob Dylan, Queens of the stone age, and shitloads of other bands. Just ordered my tickets, 145$ ouch.

I just bought tickets to see Queens of the Stone Age in August... Woohoo, that will be my 3rd time seeing them. They've kicked ass every time before, so I'm sure this summer will be no different. Yay!!

So I'm about recovered from Trancegression, a D.U.M.B. event held last weekend at Copper Mtn. ski resort. Headlined by the Disco Biscuits and Umphree's McGee (as per the acronym). Saturday was marked by sets from Lotus and the Pharcyde and others I didn't see at all. Sunday it was Hot Buttered Rum SB, Zilla and Blackalicious.
Biscuits closed Saturday and threw down pretty hard. Opened their set with 'Paul Revere' which was fun as hell, closed it off with 'The Safety Dance' by men without hats. Real fun. Umphree's was ok but the sun hadn't gone down yet which always affects things. Sunday Umphree's closed of course and tore shit up. Amazing set. Really seems like they're playing for themselves up there most of the time, and I dig it. First time seeing either of these groups, and I was pretty impressed. Umphree's sort of did some teasers Sat. night and I had my doubts as to whether they could actually play as well as they suggested they would on Sunday, but they fucking did. Regular Sunday show ended with both bands jamming together, the dumb part. Seemed like they weren't quite communicating that well initially, but gradually they're jams got better and they finished on a very energetic note, definitely trying to lure folks up to 10 K lakes this week. I can only imagine what Camp Bisco is going to be like. They had late night shows each night, too. Cost extra though, which was bullshit. First night was DJ Harry and Greyboy allstars but I didn't go. Second night was Pnuma PA (last pnuma ever?) and Galactic. Missed pnuma but Galactic was fucking off the hook, almost the highlight of the weekend for me. Great fusion of styles. They closed with 'Manic Depression.' There was also a ticket package where you would have gone to the Disco show in Boulder or UM show in Denver on Friday night, but I just did the weekend pass. This was a cool little festival. Kinda weird to have it at Copper but at least I'm familiar with the surrounding areas/towns as I've skied there all my life. If you can ignore the resort part it's actually a beautiful spot to have concerts. Shit's above nine thousand feet so water and sun protection are pretty necessary. But we could go in and out freely. Bus ran you back and forth to the parking lots/camping area constantly so you can "reload" as the promoter put it. I ate several hits of acid both days, and between the five of us in the group we put away a couple handles and a 70+ beers in two days, only really getting hammered fri. night. Lotsa fun. Not the most amazing festival but a nice little one, not a ton of people and you can get pretty close to the band. First annual, might go back next year knowing what I know now (like it's easy to make wristbands).
