Bands you dig that virtually no one you know has heard of
I think this has been done before but fuck it, let's update it
also, none of us here are music critics or are trying to pigeonhole bands, but if you could write a few words after the band name describing their sound that would be dope because it might turn others onto their stuff bardo pond - really stoned and droning guitar experimentation reminiscent of sonic youth and my bloody valentine boris - metal/hard rock band from japan similar to melvins can - 70s kraut rockers with heavy interest in proto techno played with rock instrumention gang of four - funky post punk with harsh biting guitar riffs kyuss - super heavy sludge rock with psychedelic influences, very jammy yawning man - instrumental jam oriented surf rock with a santana like rhythm section ![]()

Guilty pleasure of mine.
But I'd have to say : Clann Zu [I'm a sucker for angry political irish men and violins], they're no more, unfortunately. ETA: I believe I've posted their name here, so not too much of a secret band. |

Jim O'Rourke - his solo career though prolific is relatively unknown. Insignificance is my favorite album of his. Halfway to a Threeway and Eureka are also good. There's tons of weird stuff he did too. Plus he had his hands in on Wilcos Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and was a temporary member of Sonic Youth for their last record and has played on stage with them. Some audiophiles hate him for some reason, call him an asshole and all this but I think he makes really good music and sonics.
Jim Noir - writes fluffy pop songs about nothing in particular but they're so well done that they do their job in making me happy. Joe Pass - amazing guitarist, known among jazzers-- mostly jazz guitarists some extraordinary finger style solo jazz guitar... if calming beautiful harmony with inspired playing sounds even remotely interesting to you go buy the album "Virtuoso." Buffalo Springfield - although this is an old band that had Stephen Stills and Neil Young I don't really think that many people are familiar with them besides "For What It's Worth." Tons of amazing songs in a very short career.

Flavour - A local Winnipeg band, more info here: CD Baby: FLAVOUR: The Common Good
my brother is good friends with the drummer so he hooked me up with extra tracks that weren't featured in the two of the CD's they have Nightmares on Wax - A mix between techno and some essence of jazz, all instrumental. Best to played when under the influence Pat Metheny Group - This jazz group was our focus one year in my arts major course; hands down, one of the greatest jazz guitarists of our generation imo. The Saucermen - another local Winnipeg band my buddy plays in. It's like heavy riff-rock, all instrumental. That's all I can think of at the moment
