Gotta agree with ultimate-guitar.com.

Herb, it's pretty much an on screen diagram of the neck of your bass. High to low from top to bottom. The numbers then correspond to what fret you need to press in.

my drum machine that i use to make my base loops has drums, one-shot sounds, and synth [bass, piano, strings, etc]. notes are mapped to the pads and i can change the key in my settings and go between 3 octaves

So you'd need to know the actual note name?

Sheet music would definitely be easier. With the tabs you'd have to figure out what each note was via how your finger position changed the note an open string would play. Sheet music you'd just have to be able to marginally read music.

i think the short answer is that herb you will not be able to recreate bass tabs using your drum pads. you're going to have to do it by ear.

after doing a bit of reading on ultimate-G.com, i think it is the best site around.

Although, many of the song versions posted on there dont make any sense (musically). They "sound" wrong when u play em.

You gotta try 3-4 versions of a song, to find the one with the correct chording
