First Grow Questions

For a first grow would hydro or soil be suggested. I have seen people use clay pellets and perilite but i figure organic would be better, atleast as organic as possible. Any opinions? Also i was looking at the importance of the Kelvin rating for plants intake of lights an supposedly MH are better than HPS, that of course is personal choice but what about for first time growers?

Are MH harder to use or somethin? With soil in an automated system are drip systems used or are all nutrients an water added manually?

hps is better for flowering, so if you can only buy one light imo its a better choice.

you can use a drip system with soil but for a beginner i think hand watering would be easier/better. it could be tricky to set up a watering system that gives just the right amount because there are so many variables.

So nutes get added in once veg starts, would i just give each plant its necessary nutes specifically as i water?

Yes nutes can be added with water. Don`t over feed them, plants are happiest if they get just enough of everything.

If adding nutes bear in mind the NPK ratios- when vegging the plant for growth you want a high N and K fert, when flowering one higher in P.

When you told me 24 hrs cloning and vegging, usually 12/24 for flowering its 24hrs of light and then 12hours light 24 hours darkness?

It depends how much bud you want. Aim for a gram a watt, you won't reach that point for awhile but it's a good goal.

I would go for at least 18hrs light 6hrs dark for veg, some strains might start to flower with any less hrs light. You might as well just leave the lights on all the time for vegging IMO, hemp is slightly unusual in that it doesn`t mind continual light.

12hrs light 12 hrs darkness is normal for flowering. Sometimes it is useful to go to a light schedule with less than 12 hrs of light in a 24 hr period- this technique is used with some strains that have a tendency to veg indefinitely.

You don`t have to stick with a 24 hr time period but things might get confusing otherwise, both for the plant and you.

600w is fine for 6-12 plants.

What strains would u suggest to begin a grow op with? I wanna get somethin crazy but need short flowering strain for the first few harvests.
