Question about veg to flowering

I am doing my first grow with some Indica seeds from a friend. I have a 4x4 grow room with a 400 watt MH for Veg and 400 watt HPS for flowering. I am now in week 5 and have put the plants into flowering and set the lights to 12/12. Their are 15 of them. Some were showing some signs of preflowering, but others might not have been. That is what I am worried about. Did I jump the gun on putting them into flowering? The reason I did was they were growing extremely fast, some about 28" tall. I only have space for them to grow to about 61" or so. The plants seem healthy, but I have needed to stake most of them to keep them from falling over. Is this normal? Especially after watering them they seem to droop. I did top half of them a couple weeks ago to help with the height problem, but my main concern is that I put them into flowering too soon since they are from seed. Should I be worried? How long should I have to wait until I can sex the plants. It is getting really crowded in my grow room and would like to remove the males? Thanks

Pics?

How old were they before you changed the light schedule from veg to flowering?

Anyway, if some of them were showing preflowering then the others probably weren't far behind. I wouldn't worry. You`re right about your concern for headroom IMO.

You shouldn't have to stake indicas at this stage- sounds like they`ve stretched for some reason. How close was the MH to the plants? 400w should be plenty. what size pots are they in?
4`x4` isn't loads of space for 15 plants.

If they're wilting when you water them then they're probably getting overwatered. Keep the soil moist but not soaking.

I`d say you should be able to determine sex within 2 weeks of putting them under 12 on 12 off lighting.

P.S. Please use paragraphs .

My plant usually tops out at 28 inches. I use a 400w for flowering and still have less potent popcorn buds on the lower half of my plant. I'm able to keep my light 12 inches from my canopy because I have an air cooled lite. So penetration to the lower buds will be a problem with a 5 ft. plant. I grow 1 plant in a n 8 sq ft area and my room is pretty much used up with the one plant so I think you'll have a space problem if you end up with too many ladies.

They were almost 5 weeks when I switched. I had the MH 12 inches from the tops.
