Time of day to harvest?
Ive been reading alot lately about what time to pick my plants and theres alot of debate on the issue.
it seems that plants move their sugars to the roots at night time, but some people claim that this does not happen with MJ. i have also found out that plants will produce resin at night to defend against frost, or what have you. so im left thinking, should i mess with nature even more by giving them a 24 hr dark period to increase resin production and risk stressing them out, or should i harvest just maybe an hour before the the lights come on? or should i just say bugger all and pick them now? pics inc. the trichs are turning amber and i dont wanna wait too long, im thinking about taking them tonight or tomorrow morning right before the light comes on. what is everyones thoughts on the issue? discuss please |

I've been wondering the same thing for the last few days. I didn't find the information in my books but if it's like any other flowering herbs it's ok to harvest in the heat of the day. However since exposure to sunlight is bad for dope once it's cut I'm still on the fence

I've heard people swear by a dark period and others scoff at it. Just like everything else, there are wide varieties on opinoins. Personally, I cant imagine fucking up 13 or 14 weeks of growth too much by the time of day I take the poor girl down.

it doesnt matter when u cut them. Day or night.
Just make sure u cut em when they re ready to be chopped and not earlier. They seem almost ready in the pics (a week give or take wouldnt hurt). imo, a good time to chop, is when u have a few hrs ahead of you to trim all the plants and hang them in your drying area. Manicuring the buds before u hang them, will help the buds dry faster. on the other hand, others chop the plants and hang em right away and leave the manicuring when they re dry. i find it easier to manicure right after choping |

I've heard from every grower I know to give the plants a 24 hr period of pitch black to increase the amount of resin... Not really sure how it works but I do it before every crop and have never suffered any stress or loss in harvest weight... IMO if it does help why not try

If the main bud is ready to harvest but some of the others are not, would a person cut the bud and let the rest mature a little more or wait untill most are ready and cut the whole plant all at once?

^ you can absolutely harvest only the buds that are ready, and leave the rest to mature.
i usually give my plants a 3 day darkness period then harvest. i also water them one last time, plain water no mollasses or anything, when the lights come on on the day before 3 day period to wet my medium. by the end of the dark period, with my soilless mix being very light and faster draining than most other ppl, im usually watering every other day to every day by that time, so after those three days they are pretty thirsty. i believe the added stress of the medium drying out stimulates the resin production as a defense mechanism in the plant, also creating more trichomes. as far as hydro is concerned, i wouldnt have a clue since ive never grown hydroponically. beautiful plants, btw. double edit~ i just realized this thread is two weeks old. so absynth, wadya decide on?
