Yields?

What kind of yields are you seeing "per plant"? I keep seeing yields of 500g m2. I'm guessing thats growing in a sea of green set up. I'm contemplating growing 1-2 plants at a time and was wondering what kind of yield comes off of one plant.

I ordered some California Dream Feminized seeds, any idea what I'm gonna get off of a plant under optimum conditions?

no one can answer you with specific numbers (in ounces) because theres too many variables to consider

Yeild depends on the following factors :

strain
type of grow (sog, scrog, topped, not topped)
time in vegging (20 days, 40 days, two months, etc)
size of pots (and proper repots within the grow cycle)
wattage of lamp and the type of lamp (you ll get different yeilds with a 250HPS and different with 1K of lights)
grow conditions
etc

But to give you a very rough example:

a 250HPS with 4 (scroged) plants, under "optimum" conditions (and with a long vegging period) can yeild from 8 to 11 ounces. Keep in mind that very few people can manage such yeilds though, ok?

An average grower from that set up (and with a 25 day veg period) would get around 5-6 ounces (dry).

Forgive my noobness, what do those mean? I'm guessing sog is sea of green but I don't know about the rest.

If one or two of you don't mind making it really easy for me, I know I could figure this out with enough reading. If I was hoping to get 4-6 ozs per 3-4 month harvest, what kind of set up should I have? Has anyone else grown California Dream?

I want to start off with hydroponic water system, not even bother with soil, I have seen a lot of hydro set ups on ebay for pretty good prices. Not sure what size though for what I'm after, not sure how big of a grow box I'm gonna need, not sure what wattage to use, it seems its personal preference.

So if someone just toked a bowl and doesn't mind making it easy for a nooby, I'd be very appreciative.

i wouldnt trust flea-bay for grow stuff.

Hydro: i have no experience with, but if you re a new grower maybe its better to pass the "growing 101" course using soil and then u can upgrade to hydro. Buying a few pots and some soil wont cost you much either, in case you re wondering how much its gonna cost you to invest in a soil set up and then upgrade to hydro.

As for the set up, i think a digital ballast with a 400HPS should be just fine, if u r gonna grow for personal use. Get a good reflector too.

You will also need a carbon filter and an etxraction fan (5"). Also a thermometer and hygrometer.

If you re not handy with 2 x 4's, i would suggest buying a grow tent (budbox, etc). Get a large one 1m x 1m x 2m. It will give you headroom in case u wanna grow sativas at one point. It has all the holes (for cables, filters, watering systems, etc) built in.

Buy once and buy quality products.

Getting the cheap stuff ,will cost you more on the long run.

Dont forget a good-sized fire extinguisher.

Seeing how my first crop is gonna save me a ton of money, I don't mind buying quality equipment. The first harvest will MORE then make up for it.

I appreciate the input, I was thinking very similar as you were. I was thinking a 250w HPS in a 3 by 1.5 by 5 grow tent with a hydro unit. But I'll gladly go for a 400w and a bigger room, i've got the room for it.

How many plants are you thinking? 4 seems like a good number for that space but I'm a noob so I wouldn't know. Any idea what kinda yield a noob can get off of that set up? I found some 4x4x6.5 grow tents, and some 4x2x5 but no 3x3x6, any idea where to find one? Or will one of those do as well?

Off subject but kinda cool, I just got smoked up by two BABES, it was awesome, they just stopped by with a joint and asked what I was up to. We took a cruise grabbed some stuff in town, went back to my place and we smoked it. Best time I've had so far this month. They wanna hang out this weekend and I'm kinda stoked.

1) get a digi ballast, so you can switch to MH (metal halide) lamps for vegging

2) 6 plants SOG should do the trick. The 4x4x6.5 sounds like a nice tent.

thats like 1.2 m x 1.2 x 2meters right? or something like that

just make sure that it covers at least a 1x1m2 area.

3 sizes of pots (small, medium and large) 3, 6, 11liters should do it.

you want the cannopy to be even so it gets the maximum amount of light

go get your gear first and we re here to back u up

theres no bud like your homegrown

that size tent, and that ^ type of setup will allow you a very good chance a quality buds with quality yields.

Seeing as how 7-10 oz of the kind of stuff I plan on growing would cost me about $2000-$3000 in my area, I would say the first yield will make up for it. Even if I can't figure out how to grow well and only get 3-4 oz of some half decent bud. Plus, ganj is a hobby of mine, don't mind putting money into it.

Peace seeker should write a growers guide book. I can't help but wonder how you can have the operation he suggests while living at home. Good luck.

Glad to hear you're going to take the first step on your journey to be a "Free" man. Many people will point out what will appear to be minor suggestions about your plan. Listen to them and you will avoid many of the mistakes and assumptions that new growers make.
No.1- Start with Soil and then go to Hydro if you wish after. In Hydro growing, one single mistake in water PH, Over fertilization, bug control etc. and you lose everything at once. In soil, every pot is it's own little kingdom and mistakes can be made and recovered from. In Hydroponic mistakes are lethal immediately. In Soil it is in slow motion and can be caught and fixed
Remember this saying..." There is no replacement for displacement"!. It means that the more light(Higher wattage) provided, the bigger the yield. Read up on a thing called " a Lumen" and find out how far light energy can be pushed by different sized bulbs. This will help you understand how much room you will need to achieve your goals. for example, a 250w bulb pushes useful light energy about a foot and then tapers off another 6 inches and is pretty much useless for growing after the plant gets taller. A 400 will push 2 feet and taper off another foot. a 1000w will push good light energy to the plant for about 3 feet and tapers off over the next 18 inches.
These are rules of thumb and are not exact measurements. Obviously there is so much more we could write a book about it. Read some of the forums and then ask pertinent questions about what you wish to know and everyone will help...but, if you just ask a question such as "How do I grow" nobody will know specifically what you are asking about and very little help will be offered.
Enjoy the experience!

I don't live 'at home'. My parents don't live there, I do, but it IS their house, and me and my two brothers rent it from them. So to me, its the same difference as growing in an apartment, they aren't going into my room for any reason, and the definately don't need to go into my closet.

The master bedroom has a large walk in closet, so I should have the room. I have already talked to my dad about it, and he is cool with it. He and I are just not gonna tell my mom about it.

On top of that, my two brothers will be moving out very soon and I'm gonna have the entire place to myself.

I wasn't trying to harp on it. I'm an old dude and I look at it from a different perspective. I agree, if you're renting, it is just like having an apartment and you'll be liable and not your parents. So, grow on and listen to the wise people here. I'd been lost without them.
