Plant too close to the 600w HPS
So my buddy's plant is getting way too close to the light (like 8 inches or so) and the light is moved up as far as it will go. All the branches are tied down as much as possible (should have done LST but only discovered it recently). All of the leaves near the top are curling up into claws but the pistols still look ok.
I'm just wondering how having the HPS that close to the girl is going to affect the yield and the potency. I'm sure it will have a negative effect on both but to what extent I'm not sure. It's a lemon skunk girl from greenhouse seeds, I really hope it turns out alright because the weed around here is SHIT right now. ![]() and many thanks

It can effect if by slowing things down and even burning it. I have had this problem before and it burnt part of the top bud all brown. The lower portions are fine but the parts too close can really get messed up.
You say its all ready tied down as much as possible. Can you tie it over to the side? This is what I do if they get to big. Forgive the crappy paint pic but hopefully it gets the point across. If you do this be careful not to over do it and break it. You can tighten it up a little at a time every couple days. If it is heavy and seems like it could break use a line to support it up top.

Thanks for the reply.
And yeah it's tied down to the max, some of the branches are totally horizontal. I appreciate you taking the time to make a pic, it looks exactly like what me and my buddy are doing to the plant. I've got a pretty good feel when it comes to bending stems, haven't snapped one yet.

The curled leaves may not be caused by the plant being too close to the light. Many things like over fertilization and the use of certain additives (such as Bushmaster) may cause rams' horns.

Thanks for the info.
In this particular case I'm sure the curling is causes by the heat. There was no curling when it was being vegged under floros, and the only thing that has been added since the switch to flower was bat guano (topped with 15 ml on a 20 liter pot). If you have a plant 8 inches away from a 600w HPS I think leaf curling is bound to happen. |
