My first grow
Hi all
I read the Cannabis Grow Bible & built my own simple hydroponic system & my own light source using 2 hps 250w lamps, 2 because of redundancy if one lamp fails. There is also a timer installed on the lamp system. I have ordered some White Russian from Serious Seeds but had numerous problems arranging payment & am waiting for the shipment. In the interim, I took a chance & tried some seeds from a local crop from Swaziland called Rooibaard or Redbeard. Most of the seeds germinated & so I transplanted the seeds into the only 2 grow mediums I could find, namely Oasis & potting soil. Each one planted has survived & the seedlings are growing very quickly. The only fertiliser I could get is Multifeed & I have only fed a small amount into the water for fear of over fertilising. I plan to increase the dose gradually until the plants thrive. It may be premature but it seems the plants in the soil are greener at this stage. I do realise that having 3 seeds per pot is too much, but hey, I can always transplant into my garden. My garden is private. I have grown seeds a few times in the past just for laughs & having a massive tree was a gas. Here a a few photos, I will update as there is progress. I cant wait for my seeds to arrive, at least I will have a bit more experience in growing. ![]() The 1st pic is of the seeds (obviously not sinsimella) Most of them germinated in cotton wool |

some nice oldschool genes
hope they work out for you i'll be sure to watch how you go as for transplanting it's only doable before the roots become intertwinned so; sooner, rather than later

Thanks, for the advice, I will transplant within a week or so, as soon as the seedlings have grown the 1st set of leaves. I have about 15 germinated seeds which I am planting directly into pots with potting soil, under the lights for a few weeks & then out into the garden. I will leave 1 seedling per pot in the hydroponic setup & grow them to maturity. We are coming into our summer now, plenty sun & plenty water although my garden is irrigated by a borehole, also automated. Twill be interesting to see the difference between the hydroponic & garden grown seeds. I have to go back to work, back by midnight & will post the balance of the photos.

Got home a bit late last night, off to work now, will post photos later. Had a quick look this morning & they have grown 1cm in 1 day. I will post a pic of the harvest grow later. Cerebro, it will be interesting because the potting soil plants are growing better, contrary to Greg Greens opinion. it can only be nutrients. I will have to start experimenting. I am busy setting up a second hydroponic setup & will use a single plant with increases in fertiliser dose over the next few weeks. Mookie, I hope you enjoyed the blueberry. I envisage trying every brand out there over the next year or 2.
I have a home at the coast that I am going to for a short while in 2 weeks time. I will take a couple of plants with me to plant in my wild garden there. I will be going down for 4 weeks in december & maybe they will be ready for harvesting during my december break. I have transported plants by air befoore without pressurisation & they have survived the trip, lets see. Last edited by Twinco; 10-01-2009 at 11:47 PM. Reason: add last paragraph |

Hehehe
Thought I would add a pic of one of my ex favorite sights to when I woke up in the mornings. My bedroom is the one to the left with the sliding door. Unfortunately, I smoked that plant

Just had a peek now, this is the growth after 4 days of planting. I turned the lamp on to 12 hr cycles now. Tomorrow I will plant the rest of the seeds into potting soil & put them under the lights. Those plants will be transplanted into the garden when they are about 1 foot in height. I am going to cut off the bottom of the pots & slit the sides of the pots so the stems can simply expand.
Feeling relaxed after another long day at work, smoked a hubbly with some rooibaard mixed with molasses just now. I will post a pic of an average buy, must dig out the photo somewhere. I have always bought 1/2 a kilo at a time. Smoking through molasses is not economical but I prefer the smoother smoke through the hubbly. I dont smoke cigarettes so I prefer it this way. When I find the pic, check the size of the one head, much bigger than my fist. ![]() :co ol:

These photos were taken this morning, strange, these are the only 2 plants that are doing well. I should have seperated the 2 plants but I was worried that I would damage them so am taking my chances with 2 plants close together. I was quite amazed to see the size of the rootball by comparison to the plant size, looks healthy & seems to enjoy the environment. I am considering trying to plant the others outside next week if they do not show signs of recovery. I also have planted 15 seedlings in small pots which I am planting this weekend in the nature reserve next door to my other home. I will only be back there in december so am looking forward to seeing the results. I have also placed a seedling tray in the garden in direct sunlight & a couple of them have broken the soil surface & are looking good.

I just took these photos this morning, they are doing quite well, the 2 plants that are thriving are approximately 400mm high now. The leaves are the size of my hand & it looks like it is starting to form heads in the nodes. Perhaps the gurus can tell me if this is the case. I am hoping the good ones are female
![]() ![]() ![]() The growth seems quite rapid for 5 weeks since germination. |
