Plants too tall and budding

Ok, I admit I was a lazy butt and let my plants go way too long before 12/12. I was enjoying just watching the plants as they grew. Althought they came from the same shipment of seeds eventually I discovered one had a great lemony smell so I then was going to try to mother them..BUT I realized I hadnt tried anything from either plant. So I tried flipping to 12/12 and of course now I have the idiot problem that they are reaching the lights and I cant raise them anymore. I am about 3 weeks into it, have buds..Anybody know what happens if I go in and severly cut them back? They are at around 5' now. I would want to go to about 3' optimally.There is lots of growth at that level.Yes I will be sacrificing the majority of bud growth. If they will recover then thats ok..IF not i guess I can try to bend them or something like that...Im just looking for the easy way out. Suggestions anyone?

I only have one 600w light for the plants. If I bend them there will be a lot out of (bright)lighted area, including the bed sites. So I guess its kind of do it or loose it? I may sacrifice some bud quality rather than no bud at all??or do I have the bend concept wrong?

Yep, tie them. Just as you would a tomato plant.

I have done the deed. It was hard. Before there were only small screams as they were approaching the light. Today..They were screaming loudly..I guess I have accomplished what needs to be done for now..Tried to get some pix but even camera didnt want any part of the desecration. I'll see if anything came out.(OK the batteries ran out

))) Thanks again for the comments. I see if I can bring these puppies in for a landing in 4-5 weeks.

Yeah, I will never ever make this mistake again. If nothing else its a pain in the ass...Dont know if you can see it but I moved one of her babies in and will be moving the others once I see the moms start to recover. She is hogging all the lower light right now....Thanks for the words....

Interesting side note...I have noticed the number of bud sites has tripled. Sine they are getting light directly along the branch, the lower buds are responding just as well as the ones on the tips which are usually the best ones I get. Maybe this is something to intentionally do to increase yield? Will advise down the road.

Do LST from the start and you'll have more of those big buds normally found only at the top of the plant.
