In the "Ron Paul is indeed wrong thread", I even gave you some concessions. I'm getting sick of defending myself against people who don't understand the definition of the words they use. FYI, your credibility as a mod is going down when you must resort to calling me a zealot. And, again, as far as national debt goes I would like you to discuss how candidates other than Ron Paul plan to approach eliminating some of the debt. Simple task. Get to it. |

zeal (zēl) pronunciation
n. Enthusiastic devotion to a cause, ideal, or goal and tireless diligence in its furtherance. See synonyms at passion. Sounds about right to me, no? You're the one taking it as a pejorative. It was never meant to be. I think it aptly describes Ron Paul followers. Theyre a different breed.

Oh, and sorry if I have to keep repeating this until the words sink in: I believe in RP's issues. I've already stated I don't like cults of personality, so quit trying to paint me a mindless RP "follower". That label is far more apt for supporters of Huckabee or McCain, even, both of whom are perfect media darlings. EDIT: Oh, and who are you kidding? Certain words have certain ingrained connotations. Synonyms do not all have the exact same intent in use. You were insulting me by calling me a zealot, as nowadays few people use that term in a complimentary fashion. Pretty transparent, man. Also, it's quite interesting how posters who agree with RP are 'followers' while all other candidates have 'supporters'. I'm not sure if you're just hiding behind semantics, or if you really don't realize how your assumptions and biases are reflected through your choice of words. How's your rebuttal on the debt coming along, though? Last edited by Sofisticated; 01-19-2008 at 02:11 PM. |

Had he said "passionate", I would have no issue. "Unwavering"? "Unrelenting"? Again, all fine. However, it is INDISPUTABLE that in this day and age, one only throws out the word "zealot" in the pejorative sense, and mostly to discredit someone's sense of reason. Still focusing on bullshit, and trying to defame me when I refute your unfounded opinions? Well, go ahead. That would be your and Dubs' domain. Anyone wanna talk about Nat'l Debt? Or can we get another mod in here to hypocritically admonish me for attacks on character? So far, McCain's notions on Iraq have been to shot to hell on here. Same goes for his supposed knowledge of economics. If the very troops that candidates are hiding behind show strong monetary support for Paul, why should McCain's POW stint automatically make him exalted? You guys have really been reaching lately. And no one wants to touch the debt issue. Care to tell me why? Last edited by Sofisticated; 01-19-2008 at 02:34 PM. |

Now that you've given me a specific aspect of the debt to address, we can talk about debt when I have the time to thoroughly educate you on the subject. It's gonna take more than 5 min to do properly. Ill write something up in the next 36 hours. I mean its late saturday afternoon, I got lots to do yet.

Oh, and I'm sorry if I missed it, but who are you supporting? You posted this on the first page of this thread: "McCain would pwn Hilary in a general election. Id lvoe to see that." So you support McCain? Just trying to clarify. The only reason that I ask is that aside from you scathingly calling me a zealot, the above speculation was the only thing you thing you contributed to this thread. Any time you actually discuss issues, you choose to disregard any holes in your reasoning. That much is clear. How enthusiastic. How passionate. Pfft. He's ahead by 3-5% currently (heard it on NPR not five minutes ago), and some of Huckabee's biggest predicted support will come from precincts that aren't currently reporting.
He also lost in Nevada, but you seem to be having a hard time with that fact. Remember though, this means the Democrats are split and the Republicans aren't.

u know the man can't bring his arms above his shoulders.... its because of the torture he faced in vietnam.
a small digress: u know that mccains father was a general or similar high rank in the military, so that when john was captured by the vietcong they wanted to relase him early to gain the generals good graces. can u imagine that? they tell u that they want u to leave- the problem is : the honor and rules of pows require that prisoners be released in the order they are captured. mccain REFUSED TO BE RELEASED AHEAD OF HIS FELLOW AMERICAN POWs.... FOR THIS DEFIANCE HE WAS TORTURED AND BEATEN EVEN WORSE THAN THE OTHER POWs..... Now he cant move his arms above his shoulders.... what the fuck has hillary ever done to deserve to be president? |

I am watching McCain on CNN 1:09 PM Eastern Time.
He's actually talking about deficits and Chinese ownership. He actually mentioned restraining spending (+1), but I didn't hear any specifics. Can anyone fill me in on his particulars? If they're available? I'm not sure if this changes my opinions of him really though, because he changed his position on the economy in the span of a week. I'll have to look more at this. |
