Maybe patriot is mistaken about a law being passed that required everyone to grow hemp, but his basic premise* still stands. Patriot has never implied that Washington was a pothead and encouraged everyone to grow cannabis to smoke up. The point is that hemp is a very strong industrial crop, and early in the 20th century American lawmakers whose corporate interests were vested in other industries made sure the hemp industry was outlawed.

*the premise of how ironic it is that the Founding Fathers would, by today's laws, be felons and drug kingpins for growing even non-smokable hemp.

Sorry for the mistake...

I thought I read that somewhere once. Regardless, all the initial drafts of the U.S. Constitution were written on hemp paper. There were a great multitude of products made from hemp. George Washington was a hemp farmer.

I think you do disagree with Patriot's basic message. You're one of those skeptics you speak of.

George Washington DID write a letter to someone once, wherein it said, "Make the most of the hemp seed and sow it everywhere." (And both he and Thomas Jefferson grew it on their plantations). However, he probably wasn't telling people to grow cannabis to smoke up. You're playing 'gotcha' over some rather irrelevant 'facts.'
