Clark said that McCain lacked the executive experience necessary to be president, calling him “untested and untried” on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” And in saying so, he took a few swipes at McCain’s military service.

After saying, "I certainly honor his service as a prisoner of war. He was a hero to me and to hundreds of thousands and millions of others in the armed forces, as a prisoner of war," he added that these experiences in no way qualify McCain to be president in his view:

“He has been a voice on the Senate Armed Services Committee. And he has traveled all over the world. But he hasn't held executive responsibility. That large squadron in the Navy that he commanded — that wasn't a wartime squadron,” Clark said.

“I don’t think getting in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to become president.”

That hero tag is bullshit. mccain was a war failure who was, and is, a drain on the taxpayer. He lost an expensive plane, got paid for 5 years while doing nothing and his medical bills have been endless. He's been a welfare whore.

I think though that having seen the horror of war is a good credential for a presidential candidate to have. If they're going to be sending people to their deaths, this may offer them an additional perspective before making that decision.

Yeah I watched the Face the Nation in question, Clark really seems to want that VP spot. I was disappointed honestly because in the 2004 election I really liked some of the things he had to say. I still like some of what he has to say now but I wonder what his real motive is..

And that's the problem... the ones who are concerned about the Constitution always seem to be 3rd party candidates.

It truly is sad that the American electorate continues to vote in a way which perpetuates the very system they cry they want changed.

I know too many people who plan to vote for McCain knowing little more about him than what they showed in that movie about his Vietnam days. If that qualifies you to be President, the homeless guy drinking a 40 across the street from this library should throw his tattered smelly puke-green hat in the ring. No, getting shot down doesn't qualify one for for President. It does make for good PR though. See JFK and Bush 41 for similar examples.

But 20+ years experience in the United States Senate, often working for bipartisan solutions, certainly does qualify someone.
