How can I bring myself to vote for Obama?
I'm a Republican at heart. That means my last candidate wasn't our best. And now we're proping up what seems to be an old, only slightly senile man, with a history of war-loving. But that's to be expected.
The chant for Obama, though, is deafening. He's a fiery upstart with pop-song-like rehtoric that is just stupid enough to work. Minimal credentials, very young, handsome yet unheard of... ...he seems to be a 50/50 risk. What a vote for him really means is that I'm turning my back on my party and a huge chunk of my principles. At this point I doubt I'll do it but the moment seems so important. I think this could be because this is only the second election I've been able to vote in. So why shouldn't I have hope and trust my instinct that Barack Obama is overselling himself and that I truely do belong to the Grandest of Old Parties? |

i may not have voted a lot, but i have a bit of advice anyway. don't categorize your beliefs with a this-or-that mentality. you are supposed to pick the person you think will do a better job. i can't understand why you think you are a republican if you clearly want to vote for a democrat. if you can see that he is a better candidate then you vote for him, and are a democrat, until you decide to vote a republican. labels are stupid and you shouldn't be worrying about picking a side.

Lower taxes would be my primary concern as far as party differences. McCain BY FAR seems like he is going to be more hard nosed on vetoing Democratic spending bills, which seem to be flooding the senate right now. That alone is enough to knock some sense back into me and vote AGAINST Barack. |

McCain has said he doesn't know anything about the economy, so how in the hell would we get back on track if the president doesn't know anything about it? He's going to hire a friend, regardless of his skills, and have him run it. Obama graduated in the top of his class in Harvard, while McCain graduated like 894 of 899 or something like that. In my opinion, voting for McCain is a lot riskier for the US than Obama.

Again I'm stating that Obama is sheer hype. But giving into the hype isn't always that bad and that is my perplexity. All of my friends are into him but of course my dearl old grandmother isn't. And neither am I. Nor was I during the primaries nor had I heard of him prior to them.
McCain however has been a prominate political figure for decades and I definitely remembered him from his 2000 campain. I like his predictability and his strong headedness. Now I think it may be up to whoever becomes the VP running mates. John McCain has some great friends. |

McCain is war hungry though. We're on the brink of real war right now and with McCain in office, we definitely will be. Really, I don't want to be drafted to the war because I'm almost sure he'd try one, and I want weed to be at least decriminalized, which he won't allow. I also want the economy stable, so I'd be sticking with Obama. Just because you vote for him doesn't mean you're not Republican. Being in a party has nothing to do who you vote for, it's what you stand for. But if you don't agree with your candidate, but you do with the opposite party, then so be it. Vote for who you think is best.

We're borrowing $2 billion/week from China. Under Clinton, we had a SURPLUS. Republicans borrow and spend. Dems tax and spend.

This is a talking point that you've taken to be true. Obama is not "sheer hype" anymore than anyone else running for president is. Everything John McCain says he will do is just as empty as what Obama says he will do. The question you have to ask yourself is which one do you think will follow through on the issues that matter most to you?
The republicans have ballooned our government over the past 7 years, not the democrats. Obama will NOT raise your taxes unless you are in the top tax bracket. Obama might be a risk, but I'd much rather vote for someone who has potential, than someone who I know is going to suck. I happen to think Obama has shown immense savvy and ability since his emergence onto the national stage. and btw, voting for a PARTY is retarded. Vote for the candidate. I'd still vote for Obama if he was the republican and McCain was the democrat.

The answer is simple. When you vote, vote for the candidate you absolutely KNOW you can count on: None of the Above.
