We're FREE!!!! THE US DECRIMINILIZES MARIJUANA !!!!
Well not exactly, but they decriminilized if for MEDICAL USE!!!
and in the next few years more than 20 states will have med pot laws on the books
so within less than a decade half the states in the union will have med pot programs, people growing weed all over the country legally, and now the FEDS ARE GOING TO END THE MADNESS OF RAIDS ON STATE-LEGAL BUSINESSES AND GROWERS!!!!
WE're FREE MOFOS!!! SENSE REIGNS!!!
New medical marijuana policy issued - Yahoo! News
Cali and other states have pot legalization on their 2010 ballots- the federal government has issued orders to stop going after people who do not violate state laws for marijuana, and the broad majority of our country is clearly realizing that marijuana prohibition causes infinately more harm than the drug itself.
this is big guys, the FEDS have CHANGED THEIR POLICY!

nice! another brick in the path to full relegaliztion.
although this only applies to medical mj users, im sure it will also help the recreational user. less priority hopefully means less ppl getting busted.

As I've said before, decriminalization is a much better answer than legalization and taxation. As they say "As California goes, so goes the nation".

Sorry. I don't agree that letting the same people who have been spending our tax dollars fighting our choice to use marijuana, putting us in jail, harassing us, saying we "support terrorism" etc. get away with changing their mind and saying it's okay just so they can make money off it.
They should keep their hands off our weed. In another thread I gave Canada's former government run medical marijuana program and the extremely low quality cannabis they grew. Once they can tax AND regulate, they can not only tax ridiculous amounts (like cigarettes and hard liquor) but they can then control the quality. You may think the quality would increase, but does quality increase with things like tobacco when theyre regulated? I would say straight tobacco is much better than what you can buy from stores easily in cigarettes and rolling tobacco. Cleaner too.
What if they all of a sudden decide to add nicotine to marijuana? Keep in mind theres no nicotine in tobacco naturally....No chemicals for taste or to make it burn slower either.

It's a big step in the right direction
Regardless of all factors involved. It's been a long uphill battle for all of us. This is the first of many major hurdles.

Obama administration issues medical-marijuana non-interference guidelines
Another tiny step forward.
Associated Press
A 3-page memo spelling out the policy is expected to be sent Monday to federal prosecutors in the 14 states, and also to top officials at the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The memo, the officials said, emphasizes that prosecutors have wide discretion in choosing which cases to pursue, and says it is not a good use of federal manpower to prosecute those who are without a doubt in compliance with state law.
It’s a positive step, and having a detailed memo is certainly better than some vague statements by the Attorney General (I’ll be interested to see exactly what it says), but based on these preliminary reports, it still amounts to little more than a well meaning, but toothless, suggestion.
You want to make a statement? Tell the DEA and federal prosecutors that medical marijuana cases are completely off-limits in medical marijuana states (strictly state jurisdiction), unless specifically invited in by the state government (and not just local law enforcement). Now that would be a good start.

this is being like a whiny child imo. and besides it would be regulated for sale, obviously. but that doesn't mean you couldn't grow your own

We dont know what laws would be put in place. They could just as easily not let us grow our own. Im just saying, decriminalization works for Amsterdam, Oakland and West Hollywood. I dont see any benefits from legalizing it except benefits for the bastards who made it illegal in the first place.
I dont think people like the drug czar should be able to make a cent of marijuana.

Yeah, Like the democrats have done a real good job with marijuana....
Obama has a majority in both houses, supports marijuana decriminalization AND has a drug czar who said he's for it too...Yet I just got a pot ticket 6 months ago...with a medical license.....So I'm pretty sure the democrats are just talk.

The laws are toothless now. Why would you think they could stop anyone from growing if pot were legal? Decriminalizing leaves pot in control of organized crime. I'll even take some government intrusion before that.

Check out the New York Times dated 10/18/09, page 21 in the National section for an article titled "Los Angeles Prepares For Clash Over Drug" by Solomon Moore on this issue.

Guess you overestimate how long the judicial process takes. It's going to take at least another 6 months to really feel this legislation's impact, especially after nearly a decade of the exact opposite.

^ Better to legalise than decriminalise- the semi legal status of weed in Holland does cause issues because the coffee shops have nowhere legal to buy from.
Although the fact that it is legal to buy a few grams does make for less petty crims around and makes it a mellower place.
If it was legal to smoke weed do you think the government taxing or adulterating weed would be an issue? You could grow your own. The only thing you'd have to be para about would be getting your plants ripped.
Anyway on topic, good move, nice to see the new administration keeping a promise.
