Yes, the White House (under any administration) releases what they want us to know and doesn't release what they don't want us to know.

Pre-chewed, carefully phrased, and designed for maximum gain.

I think though that what distinguishes this situation is that the current administration pompously tries to claim the moral high ground by claiming openness, honesty, and transparency in an effort to cut through the very behaviors they themselves are engaging in.

It's the nature of the beast and to expect anything less would be naive. There are no surprises here and there certainly isn't any "change".

Who cares if fox news sucks ass, it should have every right to cover any story that anyone else is. It is so a news channel, because it does cover the news JCP. Yeah the Orielly show is straight dog shit but it actually does cover the news if you ever tried to watch it...

I do watch O'Reilly on occasion. NEWS, however, is not opinion journalism. O'Reilly uses news to forward an agenda. That is not news journalism, that is (again) opinion journalism.
The thing that makes FOX unique is that their "news" programming with Shephard Smith, the other white dude, and the crazy blond ladies are ALSO opinion journalism. What they report is not based on importance or relevance, but political agenda. And how they report it is equally propogandic. This is NOT a symptom of other news networks to the obscene degree it is as FOX (terrorist fist jab was on their NEWS show, not their talking-head show).

What the white house is saying is that the channel is not a news channel. Just because it calls itself one does not mean it is one. They are claiming its equivalent to talkradio.
Talk Radio can be handled however the white house wants to. He can invite liberal talk radio hosts to sit in the oval office for tea and crumpets and never even look at conservative talk radio hosts.

Again, I happen to think excluding Fox News from the basic news interviews and press conferences is a little far (and I HATE Fox News for what it does to this country). But I see nothing different this time from the last eight years except the "sides" have changed. Now the conservatives aren't in charge and suddenly this is UNFAIR! Well, you should have thought of that before you did it to liberals. This same schizophrenic behavior can be seen across the board: conservative administration: PASS THE PATRIOT ACT! GIVE THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH AS MUCH POWER AS POSSIBLE!. Liberal Administration: Executive branch as too much power. He's turning this country socialist! He must be stopped! The people must be heard! Conservative administration: Filibusters are wrong! Liberals are destroying the congressional process on a technicality! Liberal administration: Filibusters are necessary! Liberals are destroying congress and wemust USE a technicality to stop them!

Frankly, hindsight should be able to teach people how not to behave. And yes, there are two sides to this type of example (why are liberals continuing the cycle?), but on this specific example, I have no compassion for Fox News for reaping what they sowed.

this has nothing to do with muting conservatives. This has to do with removing Fox News from the "news" networks and giving it its rightful place in the entertainment/opinion networks.

There is no call to remove TWJ from reporting. Or The NYP. Or any number of conservative leaning newspapers.
Why? Because their news and opinion pages are more often than not SEPERATE.

Yeah, imagine that same rally during 2000-2008. Now imagine it was majorly helped if not out-rightly organized by MSNBC or CNN. One would look at those "news networks" and say "Hmm, you know, they really are crossing the line in terms of what is considered news by actually rallying together on an idea that they conceived" (9/12 project). Those same people would have been called domestic terrorists. Although what's funny is these people actually do carry weapons to rallies. Fox's implicit involvement with it showed their true colors. No network that calls itself news should ever, ever engage in the behavior they engage in. To do so is to move away from being a news network and into...well, whatever they turned into. Fair and balanced? Sure, if you're rich, white, religious and (possibly) racist. Then it's completely truth while every single other network is liberal? Please. When 9 out of 10 networks say one thing and 1 says another, it's clearly not liberalism but reality. It's ironic I admit...Fox News watchers think there's some giant liberal media conspiracy yet when you mention 9/11 possibly being a conspiracy, those same people have a shitfit.

Which is what you fail to look at j. Fox News isn't news anymore. Perhaps they once reported the news and perhaps they might mince some up into their programming now, but they have crossed into, what I feel Obama aptly called, "talk radio." They are a propaganda machine and granted, nearly all mainstream media news can be left or right leaning, they are unlike anything we've ever seen in recent years. I was in a protest that got covered by local news and they twisted everything to make us look like ass-holes when people got maced down and arrested for holding signs and standing outside of a building after we had permission to be there(sure some people called the cops pussies and shit but freedom of speech). So trust me shit does get flipped around on every channel.

The National Inquirer isn't allowed at meeting and there's a reason for that; it's entertainment, not a quality, credible source of news. This isn't about Fox being allowed to exist or not, or stopping people from listening to it, it's just not treating it as a credible source of news anymore. Much as The Daily Show is becoming a borderline news show, Fox is transforming into something else entirely. The Onion is more objective journalism than whatever Fox has been doing lately.

i'm starting to think fox news' tagline is more of an ideological crusade than a commitment to truth. it seems to me that the owners want to use their broadcasting power to balance reality with the beliefs of their audience to cultivate the fruition of their goal: stop any momentum for progress and keep the status quo. and so they put out spins and misconceptions designed to tap peoples' emotions and keep them outraged at change. this not only exacerbates the natural inclination of many people, but also provides relief, comfort. this cycle keeps them addicted, and those in charge take advantage of it for their own benefit.

really, it's like its own separate world there on fox news. sure they report on regular news stories, but they also create their own. it's like the ultimate troll tbh
