light reflection

I have my garden in a deep closet so theres onlyone wall close by that is already painted white. I was thinking of taking a cardboard box and making a three sided removeable wall, painted white to stand up in front of my plants that will surround the grow area and connect to the existing wall. Does this sound like a descent idea,or will it make any difference?

Sounds like a good idea. You could use tin foil (which I thought you were) instead of white paint. Normally I wouldn't recommend using foil because it reflects heat and if you're using HID lights thats not good, but if you're using fluoro, usually heat is not a problem. As well as walls can you have a cardboard "roof" just above your light too.

I'm not sure of the advantage of having light reflecting off the floor. I wouldn't think leaves have photosythesizing cells on their undersides..?

If you would like to pics of my grow area go to www.overgrow.com and look for fish412,that's me, and open my gallery. Someone there told me to use white paint because it was better for the reflection. The roof is another good idea i didn't think of, thanx!!

i grow in a closet with sliding doors. i erected cardboard walls with a carboard roof. i painted everything including the floor, roof and even the inside of the sliding door with flat white. it was bright as hell and warm(80 degrees) using flouros.

yeah, paint everything white. Tin foil is terrible for reflection. It reflects like 50% of light while white paint reflects up to 85%. I don't know who got the idea to use tinfoil but completely surrounding a room in it is innefiicient and dangerous.

just a glossy pearl white color. No shade hence "white". Mylar works really good but its almost equal reflection to a white wall.

Actually 'flat white' paint is the best. The glossy paint often contains luminous spheres which make it appear glossy, but they just reflect the light at irregualar angles which is inefficient.

Flat white is brighter than gloss which slows the lightwave down slightly.Any mold ,mildew , dust etc. will reduce the quality of reflection.
White plastic works well because it can be sprayed and wiped down easily, plus it helps seal a room up. Unfortunately plastic seems to come in glossy shiny white, not flat. Up to You!

Foil-60-75per cent
Gloss white-70-83per cent
Flat white-75-88per cent reflection.
