Stupid Elusive Vermiculite

It seems like the only place to buy this stuff is online, and that costs alot because of shipping weight. I've looked at EVERY hardware/plant/gardening store, and only perlite is in stock

My friend is going to transplant into a 5gallon bucket, so will only using perlite as soil aeration be alot worse without the vermiculite?

What do you lose without the vermiculite...nutrie nt absorbtion? Maybe there is something else besided perlite that can be added...

Perlite works great. Some guys in Alberta I know found some small particles of perlite in their bag of weed and asked what's up with that.My buddy told them that it was THC balls that oozed out of the plant as it was drying. They smoked it and said it was great....power of suggestion crossed with stupidity.

It's neat how any dust or hairs you leave behind on a plant gets deep into the bud hey?

I use only perlite also, the peat hold enough moisture, which is what the vermiculite does.
The perlite is to assist drainage.
If you put a layer of perlite across the bottom of your pots, how does the water leach back up?

Sorry, I remember someone saying that would work and thought I would put it here... it don't play dat way.
A layer of vermiculite... now that would allow it to leach back up.

Christ, reason enough not to bother? Didja see Phats harvest??????

i used 30% perlite in my germinating soil and i cant say i m really happy about it.

Ok the plants look fine and all, but too much perlite makes the soil easily breakable into many small bits (when it gets dry). Maybe its better to use 15 or 20% in the soil mix and avoid too much perlite during the germination stage. I ll post pics so you can see what im talking about.

For my seedlings when they go into cups it is just promix.
No screwing about.
Just put it in the cups loose and moist and pop a cracked seed on top
(from J-cloth)
and sprinkle some more moist soil (1/4") on top and put under da light.

Works for me.

I save the fancy mixes for bigger babies.
Even organics at too high a level for the first little while will kill a seedling.
