A half pack and a gram a day will realistically give you lung cancer around the age of 55 not 25.

My mom died of lung cancer at 62, and she smoked like 3-4 packs a day for years. Jackie Gleason smoked cigars and about 5 packs a day, and he drank like a fish, and died in his 70's. IOW, there are alot of variables at work.

I agree that you should quit cigs, tho. They damage your lungs more than pot, and are addictive, in addition to being habit forming, so they are a fucking pain in the ass to quit (I know, I smoked 1-1/2 packs a day for 7-8 years before I quit, and it was no fun). My advice is, if you want to quit, just stop smoking, and adopt a "Just Bring It" attitude about the withdrawal and the nagging hang-on habit part. You just tell yourself that you will smoke no matter how bad it hurts, and don't think it out any further than that. Your mind, wanting to smoke, will find ways to fuck with you ("You can have just ONE; it'll take the edge off and make it easier to quit..." etc.) to get you started again, so you have to have that "What? You call THAT withdrawal? You cigs are fucking pussies, man!!" attitude, instead. It really makes it alot easier when you have your mind totally made up and are prepared to pay whatever price you have to to give up the habit.

Also, try not to drink for awhile after you quit. Drinking lowers inhibitions AND it can make you want to smoke again. Remember, alcohol is the ultimate gateway drug that way.

Hope that helped.

Cigarettes are crazy. I can't believe I am addicted to them. I don't FEEL addicted, but I can't stop smoking them.

It's not about getting high it's about that "refreshment".

I have never smoked myself but I have had friends try to give up the habit. Try nicotine patches, they seem like a sensible way to quit without just going cold turkey.

I am now. When I started smoking, they made me dizzy, so I kept smoking them (who was I to pass up a 5 cent buzz?). After awhile, tho, I got used to it. After I quit, I gave in and had one after like 4 months, and it made me wretch. I went home and took a shower to get the sickening smell off me. It really surprised me how nauseated they made me. Good thing, too, looking back on it. I might have picked the habit back up.

Never underestimate the power of rationalization.

when i was quitting i would have alot of energy and be in a bad mood. good combination for punching random walls or blowing up at people for little things.

the thing that made it easy for me to quit was going to the gym for a few hours. id work off all the stress in the end only kicking my own ass and the whole time i was surrounded with people that didnt smoke and were happy. might not work for you but the gym honestly was the only way that actualy worked for me.

This was the only way I was able to quit the cancer sticks. I would try the slow step by step way of quitting, only 1 or 2 a week or whatever..it just didn't work.

Instead I said fuck this, i'm never smoking again and had the "Bring it on Bitch!" attitude. Worked really well and I havn't touched them in over a year now.

I take up cigs during the summer(i work somewhere I can't smoke pot or drink so I gots to do something) and I quit cigs soon as I get back. My advice is to switch from cigs to dip(skoal and the likes) or if you can find it, that weird swedish snus stuff as its healthier. You still get your nic fix, and its not a low fix like the patches give you. And its a lot easier, at least for me, to ween myself off of dip than cigs, as I feel like throwing up when I spit the tobacco out. Its hard to quit nicotine cold turkey, as it is truly addictive, so just ween yourself off best you can.

I need to quit cigs myself. I need that 'bring in on bitch' attitude that kid posted about. I know when I put the cigs down I will need to be very busy otherwise I'm gonna go nuts. I dont even know why I cant quit, hell I quit every pregnancy so wtf ya know? Anyway thats my addiction story right now, I'm addicted to nicotine and god knows whatever else they put in cigs these days, plus I smoke menthol which doesnt help. Smoking weed on top of all that is just not good. I need to quit smoking weed and just cook with it or whatever just no smoking at all period. I'm a slave to my drug and thats really fuckin sad!
