Cold Turkey and Seizures
Okay, last Tuesday after a full day of being sober and walking round the zoo with a friend I was coming home on a peak hour bus, one second i was standing the next I came to in the hospital.
The friend I was with said I had a seizure. She said I was so rigid and biting through my tongue, bleeding from the mouth and what not. When I woke up I was talking about things I had done years before...but I wasnt aware I was even awake at that point. The doctors scanned my head and wanted to do a lumbar puncture which I refused. I also have to go to an epilepsy clinic but atm they don't know what caused it..unless it was sudden withdrawl from benzos and alcohol of course..which is what I have my money on. My question to you guys, as I sit here scattered, is has this ever happened to anybody here and can ANYBODY shed some light on the situation? |

All I can say about the whole experience is I woke up very greatful for what I have in life...it's given me a great deal of strength so maybe this time I'll actually beat what's beating me. |

Alcohol is a devil.. you better quit that shit now before it gets any worse.
Having cold turkey from alcohol is no joke.. I speak from experience.

benzos (habitually) lower seizure threshold. yep, you were sober...you're addicted man. seizure when abstaining from benzos is classical addiction modeling...and horrible stuff to boot....
do you have any medical resources available to you? Detox at the very least so you can get weaned off on diazepam over a matter of weeks? You need to stop now man. if you don't, they're simply going to happen more frequently, even if you keep upping dose. and it's not a nice place to be when you've just eaten ten bars, stash is empty, you're broke, and you still feel withdrawl creeping up....makes me shiver thinking about it Once i started having seizures on benzos, they just got worse and worse unless i kept incrementally increasing dose, usually by the week. it's very possible for you to get brain damage during these episodes, and judging by the fact that you don't remember having a seizure it means their complex (simply a categorization.) I remember my first seizure. Sitiing in a booth at a diner, woke up very nauseous in an ambulance with tubes in most any vein that bled....horrible headache And now i take carbamazapine (tegretol) or else they say i've got a good chance of seizing again Seriously. benzo addiction a'int worth it man...i spent 4 years constantly on either clonazepam or xanax....after 3 months off them i'm finally getting to normal again fuck, i lost almost a whole year of my life fucked on those things. memory is still fucked, anxiety is worse than ever (but not skyrocketing anymore) and i don't have any sort of coping mechanisms that normal people develop during those times i decided to take a vacation in my head fuck crust, you're in a bad place. I don't pray or believe in god, but i'm sending positive vibes in your direction. get better for you man. ask for help if you need it, this is serious business. good luck.

... please do quit, but dont go cold turkey.
benzo withdrawel is agony, even without seizures. probably one of the top 3 withdrawels. certainly dont attempt it without your doctor perscribing you some form of anti-seizure medicine like dilantin or something of that elk. just take it easy, sure in the long run clean is the way to be, but right now just try to make it through the week. also try to have someone by you most of the time, your at high risk for it happening again. godspeed, and dont torture yourself too much.

The most dangerous drug on this planet has to be oxygen. A gateway drug to say the least, further more people use without even consideration, not consenting to moderation in the least, and dont even get me started on the withdrawels. the goal of alchemy is to turn lead into gold. to take a substance and combine it with another substance that makes it more than it's origenal worth. in this sense, you really need to start making bronze statues of your pharmacist or local chemist, for they have made gods own medicine, morphine, and in contrast, a shiney rock doesnt seem to compete. |

I can't shed light but I can sympathize somewhat. I've had seizures before, but for me I was always at home alone. I remember once I came home from school and all I remember was closing the door and then waking up an hour or so later with saliva all over my mouth. My parents don't believe I had them, I even got an eeg and they said my brain is better than average. I'm almost certain that's where my screen name came from but at this point I can't remember. Luckily I didn't need to go to the hospital during the seizure, otherwise I might not be here now.
