The bible tells you to kill people?

wtf i was reading through the bible and the old testament says things like. "those who do not believe in me shall be killed. do not hesitate to silence them with your blade. (not in those exact words but something like that. an it said if there was a town that does not believe it says to burn down the whole town. wtf

Old testament is what those freaks meant when they 'wrote' it, the new testament is just marketing. When the fire and brimstone lost its finesse, someone figured out the church had better reform and throw a lighter spin on sins and penance in order to keep the tithe rolling in. Ask anyone, a Ponzi scheme works best when you feel good about handing over your hard earned cash for a little salvation, otherwise its just extortion and that never lasts as long as eternity.

I imagine 'organized religion' as we think of it (not as it would have existed in say, a single clan of hunter and gatherers), originated at the same time as agriculture and civilization.

The bible really doesn't make God look that good. There's one part where a bunch of kids are making fun of an old man, so God sends bears to rip them to shreds. I assume She was seriously PMSing during that whole B.C. period.
