It is funny how you stumble across things just after speaking about them..

BBC NEWS | UK | Magazine | What is karma?

Also I could quite happily keep some ducks or chickens as pets for a long time and show the love.. but then one day when it was least expecting it.. BAM! Then i could show the love to my family in the form of a delicious roast duck. All that loving has to make it extra crisp also. I agree JVB.. show the love!

I would like to add that I think the most important aspect of karma is the concept of interconnectedness. To me its not a matter of doing something good brings back the good.. or visa versa.. its a matter of whatever I do has actions and consequences for the entire universe. Some may view that as a big egotistical, however I think it is merely being aware that we are a part of something greater than what we always perceive to exist.

"In a complex world, it's too simplistic to expect that a positive intention will always have a positive outcome as many factors are involved, she says."

you seem to have selectively interpreted this to suit your own purposes. for instance it says "more likely". therefore, i would not accept this interpretation you have put forth. from my wide base of written and personal studies, I would say karmic reactions are influenced but not wholly based on the intentions of the doer. for example, jains (pre-buddhist, pre-hindu) recognize unpleasant karma can come from carelessness, ignorance, or bad actions performed with good logic or intentions behind them.

i use this rule. what do you think: just switch places with the other being(s) whom your actions are affecting. is this something you would like to happen to you. would it be pleasant or painful. when you take any being's life with the shallow motive of having a meal or two or ten, then defecating them out, all kinds of stress, pain and suffering comes over it....same as if it happened to you. the animal struggles, feels pain, worries for its family, feels separation and stress, fear, struggles. the friends and family of that animal will also worry and be upset. they have lost that being for their whole life.

then there is the suffering of domesticating and imprisoning animals their whole life, separating and manipulating them, cutting off horns, castration....the list goes on in what happens to them. when we take part in that we get a whole long chain of karma.

Yes.. treat others as you would like them to treat you. I like that concept.

If an animal killed me to eat me.. then it would be tough shit really. When you gotta eat.. you gotta eat. As much as my family/friends would be sad.. and as much pain that i went through.. I could possibly die knowing that my death was not just some road kill.. but the provider of energy to sustain another life! After all the animal is me and I am the animal. The same goes for all life forms. In fact there are fuckers feeding off me right now.. as much as I don't want to think about that.

agreed. i know we are all a part of the great spirit. just saw that post....

but can you imagine/consider that we are also perhaps evolving collectively and there are possibly other worlds we are flowing/aspiring toward--worlds of a more gentle and nonviolent nature than the Earth...

^Yes but no. I always like to think that we... I... am here for the experience.. whether 'good or bad'. But yes of course I like the idea.

Also... vampires seem to be pretty wasteful... I mean.. they only drink the blood right? I would rather be devoured bones and all. But what occurred to me after I made my last post.. is that either way we (these vessels we inhabit) do become the energy to sustain the life of another organism. If we are buried the mighty fungus and others will consume us and the expensive wooden box. Even if we are cremated.. the carbon will eventually become something edible. Mmmmm charcoaled bbq shirmp, pineapple and pepper kababs.
