How old were you when

How old were you when you realized you had awareness, and could make decisions on your own....basically what I'm asking is what was the "eureka" moment in your life..When I was 10, I said to myself, "always remember this moment, this day, cause you have awareness"... so for me it was 10....anyone else?

i don't consider myself as having been aware of my decisions until like last year to be honest.

I think Self-Awareness comes pretty early for most, I was aware that I was responsible for my own actions at a very, very young age.

Good question though, I'm wondering when my daughter (20 months old tomorrow) will learn this.

It depends on what you're really asking. My awareness of my self-control came early. Probably when we left Russia and my parents weren't allowed to legally kick my ass anymore...I became aware real fast that I could do most of the stuff I wanted.

However, my awareness of my responsibility for my actions came pretty late...like 16 or so...probably even 20 because that was when I gave birth to my daughter and the hardcore reality set in that from this day on, I'm responsible for every decision I make. I can't blame anyone else for screwing up my life.

I can remember vividly laying in on my bunk bed staring out the window and realizing awareness of my own existence at that moment. It was like I came into my body at that point. I have memories from before that, but not the sense of ME being present in those events the way I do with memories since that moment.

I was probably 7 or 8 at the time.

hm.. in retrospect its hard to say because my childhood is a blur of memories.

in a way i suppose child hood is like a time of mental retardation of a sort. your brain isnt fully developed and your awareness of things is very low beyond playing with friends, eating candy and things of that nature.

to be safe id say 14 years old is when i really started looking at the bigger picture of life and becoming more aware of things greater than i.

but how do i really know i am even aware of things now? 10 years down the line i could look back at myself now and think i was a complete fool. who knows, really.

I don't remember. We learn very early that our actions have reactions. If we cry, someone feeds us, changes our diaper, etc. We learn, as we learn to maneuver our bodies to act according to our will. However, taking REAL responsibility for my actions, my life, and everything around me didn't happen until recently and once in a while I have to re-remind myself of these things. Some of this is getting caught in a "victim trap" and blaming others for things that happen in our lives. Right now, someone betrayed me (long and boring story) at work... kinda stabbed me in the back so I have to work all these weekends after being there a year and a half and someone who's been there 4 mos. has them off (grrr). BUT, I have choices. I could throw a fit and tell her I can't do it, and accept the possibility of being fired or of pissing off the people who have been there longer than me because they will have to cover it, I could quit, or I could evaluate the situation, decide it's not so bad, and live with it. These decisions come up all the time. I've decided to live with it... now I have to let go of the 'victim' thing and accept MY choice in accepting this as part of my life. Let go of the judgment that hurts noone but me (but I certainly have learned a little about who to trust ).
