is there really a DEVIL?

I am starting this thread because I am really asking do YOU believe in the DEVIL? The reason I am asking is I see so many posts on boards asking if you really believe in GOD. I will say that I probably am a non believer. in either of them. No offense inteaded I am not trying to be disruptive. I am here for peace

Im not religious, so i dont believe in the devil. What i do wonder is why people actually believe in the devil. The devil is a scam within the scam of religion. The devil was made up by evangelists scaring people to believe in God and follow their religion.

If God was perfect, omnipotent, w/e...Why would he allow a Devil and a Hell where people would be tortured for all eternity? I believe in the Evil Demon Conjecture from Decartes

I believe in balance...In that if there is absolute good/absolute faith, then there has to be a counterpoint...I do not believe in beings of absolutes or absolutes in any form so i guess i could say that the manifestation of absolute evil in the form of the being known as the devil does not exist...I do however believe that there are beings capable of action and the judgment of action is up to the perspective of the individual...

Yeah, there is, he was an angel "Iblis" who failed to prostrate before God's creation (Adam) therefore he was cast out of heaven. He asked God if he could hang around until the day God calls us all up for accountability, he agreed. So that's basically the jist of it. So basically "The Devil" tries to pull us away from God, Oneness, through greed, envy, ego, etc. God just wants our praise for creating us, and to do good deeds.

And We created you (humans), then fashioned you, then told the angels: Fall ye prostrate before Adam! And they fell prostrate, all save Iblis, who was not of those who made prostration.

He said: "What hindered thee that thou didst not fall prostrate when I bade thee?" (Iblis) said: "I am better than him. Thou createdst me of fire while him Thou didst create of clay".

there is a devil or 'void.' where do you think the souls of rapists, child molesters and cold blooded killers go when they die? if there is a GOD which most of us believe in, in one form or another then we could agree that a loving GOD would have created a place for those souls to stagnate forever or until they see the light.

Do some of you really believe that there won't be a day when we are all brought up before our creator and judged? Even if I didn't, just the slightest possibility that I could burn in a hell, would lead me to entertain the thought of God and a Devil.

Do you think that evil will be rewarded with good? Or that Good will be rewarded with evil? In a world were every action has a reaction, not having a God and Devil doesn't seem logical.

Why do we need to be judged? Life isn't fair, rewards arent doled out for good behavior. When you do good you need to look for reward in the positive effect you had on the universe. Putting more positive energy out there benefits all, putting in negative energy hurts all.

We're all going to move up together to fall down together. There wont be some group of divine ascending, powerful (superman) going under, or even despicable receiving punishment. In the end the individual is insignificant. Humanity is its own judge and all you can do is your part.

I've heard hell is separation from god. Once you factor in that mankind is its own god (ruled over by the titan that is nature and the universe) you realize that mankind is responsible for itself. We're not renting out our little existence from a deity, we're all working on the same house that we all own together.

Take note how people asking about God generally post in the Spiritual Smoke or High Thoughts Forum, which is where I'm taking this.

In the arabic understanding origonally the word for Satan only meant Adversary, which is much more paletable to me.

IMO there is no god or devil. In the end the lights just go off. My body becomes what it was, Earth. Our soul is a chemical reaction like all other things in our bodys. Just my thought. We are not wrong in our ideas about the world, just seldom right.

Good and Evil are purely subjective and up to perspective...

how far can you take relativism thoug?. in the end doesnt it defeat any possibility of a greater truth, and thus lend itself to nihilism? (not that theres anything wrong with nihilism (just as theres nothing right with it either

all points of view are accepted, there isn't just one perspective or way of being/living/belief, and nothing is static...Everything is ever changing and ever evolving, so why shouldn't beliefs...If anything relativism opens one up to accept all beliefs because they are seen as they are, just perspective of the individual...
