Veggie Deisel?

My brother is going to convert his truck soon. You apperently can make deisel cars use vegetable oil as a fuel. Sounds pretty cool, and its carbon neutral (means no emissions). If it works out well I wanna do it too. Any one else heard of this? anyone else done it??

It works. Best research if the engine your gonna use will take to it well- some are better than others- depends on the injectors more than anything else. Probably best avoided for turbodeisels.

I havn`t but I know a number of people who have with good results. Are you in the States? If so I`m not sure what engines are available to you (I`m in U.K.). What vehicle were you considering?

It won`t work with a gasoline motor. Or at least veggie oil won`t.

Yea, but you have to buy a conversion kit. You can't just make it happen with what you have in the pre-existing engine.

Thats all they have as far as I know. Im pretty sure you cant buy a deisel V6 truck here.

for using used cooking oil, i have heard many people put in a second tank for the french fry oil that has an electric warmer because it wont burn if its too cold. so they start their engine on regular diesel and after getting going they switch to the other tank, and then before turning off the engine, switch back to the regular diesel so that none of the sticky stuff in the oil stays in your fuel pump/ engine.
otherwise used oil has to be treated to clean out the gross stuff that will gum up your engine
-this is all secondhand info that i have heard

Im not sure about that, I havent heard of it, but My brother knows how to purify it. And yes, used cooking oil will be used.

Try it with a simple engine and it should work. Don`t try with an engine which is worth much money unless you already know the score. It should work fine to be honest, the injectors in a motor like that should be fucking huge, clogging the injectors is the problem. You`ll have to experiment with thinning the veg oil with gas or similar petrol product. Some people have stet-ups to pre heat the veg oil before the injectors but it`s best to select a motor that can cope without any extra kit. People I know have used in line 4 pot diesels from Peugot, Mercedes and Ford(UK). The simpler and bigger the engine the more likely it is to work.

Too late the truck is already purchased. You NEED a conversion kit. If you dont use it, your engine is fucked. you cant just put vegetable oil into your tank lmfao.
