gotta love all the withdrawals & "tendonitis" that have sprung up since the IOC announced the 2000% increase in blood & urine testing compared to the 2004 Games.

when WADA revealed the positive tests for CERA at le tour, it was pretty clear that plenty of swimmers/runners/cyclists would pull out.

nations leaving their entire weightlifting teams at home...

sport is quite fucked these days.

i think they've had plenty of those

this seems like the first time there are a lot of genuine intimidation tactics in play from the anti-dopers.

course then you hear about the gene therapy... it's just like any goodguy/badguy cat&mouse out there. technological advances will always allow for windows of opportunity, just matters who seizes upon them first.

in any case, that birds nest thing is fucking wild...
all in all most of it should be an awesome spectacle.

Two different kinds of olympics would be awesome. If nothing else it'd be really entertaining to see people break every record and push themselves to unsafe limits with steroids.

drugs are tolerated

as long as they re not traceable...

the country with the most high tech biotechnology, wins the most medals
since they can supply their athletes with top notch chemicals that arent traceable

and the athletes who buy the cheap "made in china" anabolics, get busted

but it would be funny indeed to see an olympiad with fully druged athletes

by the way, the birds nest looks awsome

a day of responsibility for the chinese leadership. i wonder how they'll handle it. i wonder what demonstrations may occur.

edit - in numerology 8 is a number of responsibility. in the east it also means wealth and fortune.

I think that's the main reason they won the vote to host the olympics, 8 is Chinas luckiest number so it couldnt get any better for them to host on 08/08/08 anyway I'm more interested in the politics side than the actual events.

i had mixed feelings about the opening ceremony

for the most part, it was a nice show. Quite cultural and well orchestrated

the only part i didnt like was when the stadium turned red (with lights) and four military personel carried the chinese flag with a nazi-like walk.

made me kinda skeptical..

Men's 100m won by Usain Bolt of Jamaica, I think the time was 9.69sec, new WR.
The most amazing race I can remember seeing, ever.

yea, its pretty sad, the age rule was meant to protect young girls from this kind of behavior and its so blatant the amount of exploitation of pre teens china is doing.

Yay, Phelps gets his 8 medals. Now will they show something that isn't fucking swimming!?

Women's beach volleyball though. I could watch that all day.

We do the same thing. We just don't try to sneak them into the olympics.

Good point, I mean these girls have been training their whole lives for this. They might be fully 16 when they get there but both Chinese and American girls are being groomed for this. It's just the way gymnastics goes though I suppose.
