I've got a few bears around my camp.......so here's what I've been up to!
I went to the local butcher and asked for his scrap meat, chicken, bacon, beef........ Then I went to the chip stand and got 40 litres of used oil. I made a small fire in a barrel and cooked up the bacon and pork with a half litre of molasses............ .you've got to cook it on the spot where you plan on baiting! I've got this chained to a tractor............. . Cook until almost burnt.........so the smell fills the surrounding bush. The used potatoe oil is sprayed on trees all around the baited area. The chicken is in a sealed 15 litre pail chored to a solid tree with holes in so the meat can rot and the smell will bring the bear a looking. Now for my weapon of choice.............. .the 30-30 Marlin! Pics to follow soon............

Instead of me running the bush looking for Mr. and Mrs. Bear.............I'v e made them a lunch they can't resist! ![]() They never miss a FREE snack, never! Need colder weather before I can do the deed, (heavier coats) by then they will be regular guests at the table. (chained to the tractor) ![]() Haven't made moccasins in a while but I suppose it's like riding a real bike! I'm curious as to how much everyone pays for their hunting license, how much the Firearms Certificate is and how long it took to get it in the mail, does your area require one to take a hunting course and do you have to shoot into the target to pass the course???

I've heard some are selling to ??? for 1000 CAN. Mine aint fer sale........! We know about the medicinal properties and just in case Bill C-51 kicks in, I need to gather. The bear meat is very red for those who like, the young one would make a real nice jerky, personally I only eat young bear for they haven't scavanged as much as an older one. The bear is like a bottom feeder but of the forest, they eat almost anything, dead, rotting or alive! Then we have the radio-activity problem where warnings have been silently issued by the Ministry of Natural Ressources.......... ..they've said not to eat wild game, blueberries.......th e list goes on and on.............! Why take the chance? (here anyways) I know first hand they're drilling for Uranium, we've seen mutations in new born deer...........all the game will be good for is their pelts, even the bile, I'd be leary.

Yeah i have to say shooting bears isn't super cool, but to be honest PG sounds like the person who's probably actually gonna use all the parts of it, and not just hunt for sport.

Can't you just leave animals alone? Are they hurting you? Did they eat a family member?

There is no sport in what you are doing pharm. Pheasant hunting takes skill. That's the only thing I've ever hunted myself (in South Dakota). Deer hunters are needed where I live (northern Minnesota). However, bear hunters are lazy asses in my opinion, unless they aren't baiting, but even then bears are not overpopulated. I've never eaten bear and probably never will. I bid you good day mam.

i know the feeling, i think. You feel you have pent up skill, tact and nerves, and you want to put it to the test against another animal, but i ask you, please, rethink it. However exhillerating it is, the rush you get of (slightly) risking your life and testing your wit against another creature, it doesnt sound like an antagonist, it doesnt sound like they have any reason at all to deserve to die.
If this is something you really need to do, either to kill time or test yourself, its not my place to tell you not to, but please consider either travelling somewhere where you can hunt something faster/more overpopulated/a menace to the people in the area, or using tranquilisers as oppose to bullets. |

The bear population is extremely high..........spring permits were pulled 2 years ago which led to over-population. They've since opened up the spring hunt. When I take out these bears, I will be tanning the hides, the fat will be used for water-proofing, soap and shampoo............t he list goes on and on. The meat will go up to the Res.............noth ing will go to waste, nor for sale, nothing! These bears will be getting a heavy metal test...........before anyone consumes the meat.

Hunting seems to be a subjective term. And for some reason it is considered a sport but with a seemingly uneven playing field. Nonetheless I commend you of your usage of the entire animal.

I don't believe there is such a thing as overpopulation of any bear species in the world. I can't argue with how you are using the bear for useful things. Also, I love outdoor chicks who hunt and know how to get their hands dirty. But bear populations are usually scarce, in my understanding and you should be seeking them out, not have a bunch of oily foods frying up to bait them. But still, you have presented your case well and I will back down.
