A few years back a bunch of San Fran couriers turned up in London on fixed wheel, they`d cycled most of the way across Europe, they ended up staying in a squat where friends of mine lived. I don`t know why tf you would choose fixed wheel in Frisco being all hilly and that, but it`s all good.
I`ve cycled fixed wheel , back pedal brake, hub gears, derailleur. Derailleur wins hands down but you get special manly points for trying to keep up with derailleur down hills with fixed gears. Good for wheelies as well cos you don`t have to use the brake for control. Props SSD cycling is part of the solution to today`s ills, more power to your legs.

it used to be that you couldn't understand the soul of a bike unless you learned TIG welding and built your own frame.
apparently fixie trendsters have found some sort of shortcut

<~ Wants a bike so bad.
Unfortunately I can't find a frame to hold my frame. I'm pretty sure I can't just grab any old bike right?

i am pretty sure most frames would be strong enough. maybe go to a bike store and ask. maybe don't get one made from aluminium.
i guess i'm not really sure at all. interesting question

agreed, don't get aluminum. just go to a bike store and try sitting on a bunch to see what frame size fits you best. also, it totally depends on what kind of riding you want to do.

I'm not into mountain biking(well I am, but I've had bad experiences and I'm not there physically either)
So it'll just be street riding to get me from place to place. No racing or anything either.

a mountain bike frame will be stronger than a street/hybrid frame in any case, so that is where you should probably start looking. you can put street tires on a mountain bike and ride it on the road.

^s true.
Also decent quality modern aluminium frames are fine. I`d choose steel for the suppleness of ride but suspension works well nowadays.

noice noice ... no hating on the fixed gear, it gives consistency. the latest bike i picked up was a trek 7.2 fx and i love that machine. up until the cold weather i was putting 14 miles up on it 4 days a week, and it's smoooooth as fuck.

I've found my bike...
BikePedia - 2009 Specialized Hardrock Sport Disc Complete Bicycle http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=38436 I'm getting the black model. I'm going to replace the wheels with 48 spoke rims(they're the ones at the bottom of the page) instead of the stock 32 for more support of my weight and replace the front suspension with a rigid fork. In the following months I'm gonna get a Thomson seatpost and Avid Juicy 7 disc hydraulic disc brakes. Now I just need $700 to get it... ![]() ![]()

well, i did it - i added a freewheel to it. i dont really know what to say, both have pros and cons...its nice getting to work downtown in like 20 minutes coasting down hills, and its nice coasting in general....but fixed is still rad and i plan on switching back eventually

my mentality towards biking here in norway is all wrong. in canada we put the bikes away and don't ride them all winter (unless you are a winter biker, and for that you need a different bike), but it seems like the weather is good enough here to go for a spin.
all the roads are dry in the city so i guess i am just being stubborn
